OT: FIOS Speedup

Post by CraginS »

For all of us Internet Junkies who have FIOS, Verizon just started advertising new Quantum speeds, up to 300 Mbos.

I logged into the MyVerizon account, and discovered I could double my net speed from 25 to 50 Mbps and reduce my monthly bill by $5, just by agreeing to a new 2 year commitment. I decided, instead, to keep my same bundle price as before, which jumped my net speed to 75 Mbps - triple the speed fwith no bill change. (The highest I could get is 150, not 300, but that would add $85 to my bill.)
I recommend using the online upgrade process. When I called a VZ rep, she was not giving me the lower price as online, so I went back to the online interface.

BTW, if you want to check your speed, try http://infospeed.verizon.net (you do not have to be a Verizon customer; it is open to all) or http://speedtest.net/

Rich.. WHich links and which what s/w?
Are your referring to a verizon site, or one of the of the google or blogspot sites in my sig?
To my knowledge, google does not install s/w, but it will ask to run Google-analytics and some other scripts. Just use NO_Script and say no.

Verizon, doesn't recognize my version of java, wants to install it's own, during install when reading flashing by popup windows there's some nosy data collection parts.Stopped the install.Their speed software also tells me only 2.5mbps when speedtest tells me 9.7.No fiberoptics where I live yet,10 mbps will have to do.
