Bacil,
If it still looks good then I'll take a half day, I'd be there around 2:00PM.

Its been reported that the Pulpit primary is high grass but that the secondary is fine. Also, Jon indicated that there is another field across the road from the primary that is usable and Bacil likes the golf course.

We're planning for the Pulpit fly-in on July 14th. Does the setup area need to be weed whacked?

Looks pretty south; I'm gonna wait for a better forecasted day.
Re: Pulpit Thursday 6/28
Got to the Pulpit at 9:15A to straight in conditions at 8 to 12 MPH. Set up and waited for Ward and Jon to arrive. They both got there by 10A. Jon set up while Ward eyed the conditions. By the time I was ready to go at 10:45A it had backed down to light conditions. I launched from the pad into 5 to 8 MPH. The launch went OK but I should have gone from the ramp in light conditions such as those. Got some lift right out in front but lost it heading south. Had a nice landing to the south in the secondary. Carrying over to the road by the barn I ran into Ed Doyle the landowner. I mentioned the hot temperatures and thanked him for allowing me to land on his property. He was cordial but soon launched into a tirade about being sassed by a pilot from Virginia who drove like a bat out of hell up the road, stirring up dust that aggravated Ed's COPD, and turned around up by the barn unnecessarily. When Ed approached the subject about slowing down and turning around at the pulloff at the bottom of the field, the pilot copped an attitude and replied he was entitled to do whatever he wanted to do. Ed's nephew down Jugtown Road got the same treatment from this pilot prior to Ed's encounter. This selfish, arrogant attitude is what gets LZs lost!!! One's negative behavior towards landowners f**ks it up for the rest of us! We can't afford to lose the secondary LZ at the Pulpit, or any LZ for that matter. I promised Ed I would let the community know about his concerns, so respect the homeowner's along Jugtown Road by taking it slow (there should be no reason to hurry unless someone is injured) and showing some thanks for the landing privileges they give to us. Jon took off around an hour later as conditions improved and was rewarded with a brief soaring flight before gravity won. He ended up having a nice landing to the south in the secondary. The three of us got some refreshments at the bar before heading back. Bacil

Bacil summed it up nicely. Love sneaking that midweek flying in! Thanks to Ward for helping me with launch and also driving Bacil's truck down. Enjoyed the cold ones and chit chat with you guys afterwards.

Did Ed say anything about the color/make of car? Does he remember anything about the driver? When did this happen?
I can think of some folks who may forget and drive too fast, but I don't know anybody who would be rude to the landowner!

Glad you guys got to fly. Way to get back in the air, Bacil, even if it was a short flight!
I'm angered by the report of somebody pissing off the secondary LZ landowner. I hope the guilty party is educated asap! Losing the secondary would make the Pulpit largely unflyable for new pilots on single surface wings.

I don't think Ed is the landowner; we've been sending fruit to Mike Hill on the pretense that he's the landowner.I ran into Ed Doyle the landowner
Nevertheless, Bacil's right on target. The Pulpit Charter holds that, "Dangerous, irresponsible, illegal, or disruptive behavior engaged in at the launch site, in the air, or in the landing field area shall be grounds for disciplinary action." I can think of few things more disruptive than pissing off a local who might get us kicked out of an LZ.
And let's all remember to drive painfully slowly on Jugtown Road, especially in this dry weather.

Jon told me this morning that the primary has been mowed but contains large hay bails throughout most of it with a few strips that are clear.
