Guy I owe you a ride. Let's discuss time with Jeff and Tom.
Re: Pulpit, Friday June 8
I'm interested also. I may not be able to escape until late because of a proposal review.

Forecasts are still looking good for tomorrow. Unless they change significantly, my plan is to arrive around 10:30.

Woodstock might be better for us PGs. Lighter uppers and less chance of being blown out. Will decide in am.

Awesome day #paragliding at Woodstock. Tom flew to Orange. I got to 8000 ft and flew 15 miles to near Dickeys. 4pm launch. 2 hour flight. Eating Mexican in Warrenton where we met Tom!
Re: Pulpit, Friday June 8
After Jesse's early flight, he and retrieval driver David B reported that grass in the primary LZ was waist to chest high. Kelvin P and I decided not to deal with that, so we packed up. However, several others flew the Pulpit: Ward O, David B,, Steve K, and Jesse Y. I crewed, then followed Kelvin to High Rock, where Eddie M and I crewed him off a bit after 6:00 for an evening glass off.

Decent day at Pulpit. Grass in primary is very high, so all flights were either OTB (Ward) or to the Secondary (everyone else). 40 min and 1215 over. I might've stayed up longer, but the I took the sink cycle when I saw the virga on the horizon. It started raining a few minutes after I landed. A couple of folks with higher performance gliders elected not to fly. Kelvin left to check HR.

First time to 8000 on the east coast for me. Woohoo! Tracklog isn't much to look at other than the one climb because I ventured off course on glide. Landed in Browntown. Tom's flight was much more impressive. Fantastic way to spend a day with friends.

Photos. My camera had a haze spot on it due to the closed gopro case. It wasn't that hazy.

Kind of a funky day at the Pulpit. Fairly strong north cross and some punchy air. I carpooled with David B. and we got there around 11am to find Ward setting up. A handful of other pilots showed up too. Good to see everybody!
I had two nice 40 minute flights with some nice climbs. I feel like I'm progressing a little more each flight and getting better and staying in lift, and more patient. That's fun!
First flight got fairly high and then found huge sink everywhere and got drilled back to the ridge and below. With the north cross I couldn't run south from the sink for fear of not making it back, and so I bailed and decided to take my chances in the primary. I decided to land in the small clear patch where the old tree line used to be, as the crops and chest high grass weren't very good options. Pulled it off, thanks to my Falcon's horrendous glide!
Second flight later in the afternoon I had fun circling with David B. and found widespread lift out to the secondary. I also decided to land when the clouds to the NW started to look a bit scary and there was obvious rain on the far ridge. Took a while to get down to the secondary, even with some spiral dives. In the end, it only sprinkled for a few minutes as we were packing up and then the sky cleared out. Ah well...
Back on launch conditions were lighter but still a bit punchy. We watched Steve K. launch his paraglider after a couple tries in the bubbly air and then went to Mama's Pizza before hitting the road. Great day!

I agree with Bodner’s assessment “Decent day at the Pulpit.” Not exceptional, but decent. Here are 10 images from my ~1.5 hr flight. In the first pic - on the ramp, Jon Brantly (N), Jerry Heins (RW), Jesse Yoder (K) and David Bodner (LW) – Thanks! and Jerry, thanks for the retrieval! Also, Cragin - thanks for posting the takeoff video! I landed in an alfalfa field ~ 0.25 miles east of the Elementary School on Lemar Rd using my wheels. Saving the legs for another day.
