More Woodstock -- Mon June 4
Strong and way too north. Rotor surfing. Very rough. 3 or 400 over made a big difference but it was still terrible. Game plan was to head to the north point, get high and at least have a nice ride back. But I was looking at ground speeds of 5 or 6 mph so I gave it up just north of fat thumb. Roger demonstrated the value of a fast glider in bucking a headwind. Gary didn't launch until 5 and still got clobbered. Jeff didn't launch his PG until 6 and it didn't look to me like he was having fun.

I agree with all the above. Very rough air within 400 above launch. But at times, rough above that too. I went weightless three times and fell in a few holes. No discernable thermals. 1400' over and 2:12 north approach in the lz. Knee high grass fairly thick on the spine / crest of the lz. All the landings were ok, nothing to make Ryan V smile, but considering the conditions...
I flew my cocoon and toppless together for the first time. Lotsa fun. You forget after flying a slider harness how relaxing it is to bend, cross and just stretch around.
Thanks Bacil for the text. I had already left the house to work in the the country, so all I needed was a little push. Thanks Steve for the launch assistance too.
I have a question. Why was it going north (headwind) we would barely climb, whereas going south in a tailwind and even flying as fast as I felt the turbulence would allow, We climbed the best? By far!

Indeed, Steve, accurate observation. Launched at 6:30 and found it launchable but not enjoyably flyable (although not terrible either). Very north cross and lots of turbulence, so after two trial turns I just crabbed down the bridge spine and landed in the corner of the bridge yard. My two turns showed almost NE in the valley, and my landing seemed to suggest as much as well. We enjoyed watching you and Roger for a while from the tower. Roger's speeds were impressive to see, a nice wing for sure. My dad and I grabbed dinner at Brother's in Mauertown, which was about as memorable as the flight.
