Folks,
I'm in need of a short video clip for my National Parks Service presentation. The clip that I need should start with the hang gliding vehicle arriving at the parking area of a foot launched site, then removing the glider from the vehicle and carrying it to the launch site and "setting it up", followed by a launch, a small portion of the flight, landing, and finally "breakdown and carrying out" of the glider.
The purpose of the video is to illustrate the fact that our hang gliding community steps as lightly on the ground as the most environmentally conscientious day hikers. I think the best way to do this is to illustrate the fact that we "walk" our craft into our launch sites, assemble them there, then disassemble and out of our landing fields.
Ideally, the launch area will not appear overly developed. For our local sites Dickies, Woodstock and Daniels come to mind. A good representation of the "light footsteps" nature of our sport is more important than a perfect treeless undeveloped launch site.
A shot of the Shenandoah National Park visitors peeling their eyes away from the fall colors to admire the Dickey's Ridge pilots soaring lazily overhead would be icing on the cake.
The entire video needs to run in 90 seconds or less. This implies that the video will need to run in 'fast forward' for nearly its duration.
If you have or can produce such a video at a quality sufficient for projection onto a conference room screen, please let me know.
There are several members of the CHGPA whose videos demonstrate a high level of proficiency with multimedia presentations. This is a skill I do not possess. A dedicated volunteer to assist in putting this presentation would be very helpful. I know what I want to say and how, but I don't know how to construct it using tools more advanced that a relatively simple powerpoint presentation.
Thanks,
Dan Tomlinson

I'll keep this in mind and try to get some additional footage next time I'm at Woodstock.

Several possible sources of video content come to mind:
a) Dan Tuckweiler's vids at vimeo.com : http://vimeo.com/dantuck
b) Jesse's vids at YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/user/jyoder111?feature=watch
c) Gary Smith's DVD
Editing isn't easy : For all of the above, it's not all that easy to splice a few clips together for a specific purpose, like
what you are describing.... There's a lot of time and effort involved.
If your timeframe is short, then I'd suggest that you contact any/all of the above, and ask if they can identify
specific segments of already-produced vids, which might meet your needs. *Maybe* they could provide a targeted
product that matches what you need, or perhaps they can point to a specific time-sequence of an existing vid.
For (c) : I *do* have some extra copies of Gary's work, and there's definitely a lot of Woodstock content in it.
If you need a copy, please let me know and I'll get it to you ASAP Dan.

Dan,
I'd be happy to try to help out with this. When is your deadline for submission or is there one? I have lots and lots of footage from Woodstock over the last few years, all of it in HD.
But like you said, I think we should make a point to show the minimal-impact nature of our sports which means getting more footage to show just that.
Are you going to be speaking over the film or is it stand-alone viewing in addition to a verbal presentation afterwards?
Do want music? What? I can't use any Snoop Dogg?!?! WTF man?
I think 90 seconds is probably about the perfect length for this purpose. Nothing I've ever produced has kept the attention of a non-pilot for more than a couple minutes anyway.
And you can get a lot across in 90 seconds of film. A picture's worth a thousand words they say, 90 seconds of film is 2700 pictures.
Maybe Jesse and I could collaborate on this???

Yeah, we can pool footage and then you can edit it, ok?

Dan T, Jesse,
That sounds great! I'm planning on flying Woodstock tomorrow and maybe the Pulpit this weekend. I'm nearly 100% PG these days and have a brand new sky blue Gin Sprint Evo. I'll be flying it. Maybe we could meet at one of the sites and figure out how best to proceed.
It looks like tomorrow at Woodstock is going to be sweet. I hope you can make it.
Thanks,
Dan
