Re: Flying Sunday
I plan to fly PG at Bills if anyone else is going. It looks like the clouds will diminish after noon. It could be a pleasant afternoon and the fan might turn on late in the day. It often does.

This weekend is one of the Highland Challenge weekends.
Few people flew yesterday. Hoping for better conditions today.

Re: Flying Sunday
Despite the worsening forecast some hungry pilots decided to trek to Bills. Petr and I met Ellis and Dan in the LZ at 2:30 and picked up a new student named Scott who had just had his first mountain flight. At 3pm, as Dan predicted, a blue hole started to open up right above launch. Petr quickly launched and found the beginning of a thermal over the LZ and had a really nice low save! I joined him in the same thermal and we soared a few hundred feet over the ridge before leaving it to head back toward launch for the sun to the south. I was intent on top landing if I started to get low and made a touch and go and then sledded to the LZ with Petr right behind me. Ellis and Dan launched immediately after we landed and seemed to stay up easily for about 30 minutes even though the sky had started to cloud back up. Ben B launched a little too early and sledded. Around 4pm the wind increased enough for Peter Humes to take a student tandem. By 4:30 the wind increased a little more and the cloud above us got a little darker, but nothing on the radar and the birds were ridge soaring easily. Scott took his first short soaring flight. Petr launched and ridge soared for a bit before light rain started to fall around 5pm. I picked him up and we drove home in heavy rain through Breezewood. We were home by 8pm happy to have soared.

Fun day at Ridgely. We got there late-- almost 2pm -- just as the sun started to peek out. A bunch of dudes in the Highland Challenge were in line for the tug--- including Carlos,, Matt from Richmond, his friend Alex, John Simon, Jon B., Paul, Christian and other dudes.
Karen and I got in line around 3pm. I pinned off a little early and climbed up to base at 3K. Karen and Vasil (from PA) joined me in the thermal. I got about 40 minute and Karen got 35 minutes. It decked over and shut down... but cleared up later and Heather took a flight.
Had time for a nice dinner at Rustico in Stevesnville and still got hoe by 8:45pm

I tried to resist but failed. Sorry, my will-power is very weak these day.
