Dickey's Ridge 4/25

Post by mingram »

Today was bitchin'. We had to wait for gusts to calm down to launch and in the strong lift made the flight a bit stressful. I had some climbs of 3.5 m/s, peak 4.2 m/s! I've been obsessing about getting good lift since that epic day at Bills Hill on 3/23 and I got it today.

Launching was a little difficult. I launched at 5:00. Dan, Laszlo, Tom, and Jono also flew.

I found lift lines due West and got 1500 ft over just flying straight, but then I would lose the lift and head back to the hill. Tom kept going out into the valley. A big sink cycle forced me to go land, but 700 ft over the LZ I found zero sink that turned into my most enjoyable climb of the day. I just kept turning and making small adjustments until I had gradually gained 1000 ft. Total 1 hour 20 minutes.

I wonder if we could have launched from Woodstock earlier and gone XC?
