TFR Friday May 18 & Saturday May 19...

Post by Danny Brotto »

Looks like a 30 NM TFR around Camp David will be in effect for the G8 Summit at Camp David for May 18 and 19. This will shut HR down for sure but looks to encompass the Pulpit too.

The draft announcement is circulating with the actual TFR posting TBD... draft posted below.

Danny Brotto

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be issuing a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in support of
the G-8 Summit that will be held at Thurmont, MD from May 18th through May 19th, 2012. The President of
the United States and a number of world leaders are expected to participate in the event. The restrictions are
designed to provide a safe and secure environment for the event.
Pursuant to 49 USC 40103(b), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) classifies the airspace defined in this
advisory and the published NOTAM as 'National Defense Airspace'. Pilots who do not adhere to the following
procedures may be intercepted, detained and interviewed by law enforcement/security personnel. Any of the
following additional actions may also be taken against a pilot who does not comply with the requirements or
any special instructions or procedures announced in this NOTAM:
A) The FAA may take administrative action, including imposing civil penalties and the suspension or
revocation of airmen certificates; or
B) The United States Government may pursue criminal charges, including charges under Title 49 of the United
States Code, Section 46307; or
C) The United States Government may use deadly force against the airborne aircraft, if it is determined that the
aircraft poses an imminent security threat.
Be advised that noncompliance with the published NOTAM may result in the use of force.
To ensure the airspace is secure during this event, airspace restrictions will be in place around Thurmont, MD.
The NOTAM(s) discussed in this advisory may change with little or no notice. Pilots are advised to check
NOTAM(s) frequently for possible changes prior to operations in the area. Pilots are strongly suggested to
contact a Flight Service Station at 1-800-WX-BRIEF (1-800-992-7433) prior to flight to check for all current
NOTAMs.
G-8 Summit Temporary Flight Restrictions
Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) areas are part of the G-8 Summit airspace security measures. There will be
a 10/30NMR TFR centered on 393853N/0772800W or the MRB055023.7 up to but not including 18000 FT
MSL.
Actual TFR times and detailed instructions and procedures will be included in the published NOTAM.
Aircraft flight operations will be prohibited except as specified below and/or unless authorized by ATC in
consultation with the Air Traffic Security Coordinator via the Domestic Events Network (DEN):
A. Within the 10NM inner core, all aircraft operations are prohibited except for:
1. Aircraft supporting the USSS and the White House, emergency/life saving flights (medical/law
enforcement/firefighting) that have coordinated prior to departure with the United States Secret Service.
DRAFT
April 12, 2012
Contact information will be published in the NOTAM. Those approved operators must be in direct
contact with ATC and squawking an assigned beacon code. Avoid Prohibited Area 40 (P-40) /
Restricted Area 4009 (R-4009) unless United States Secret Service authorization is received.
B. For operations within the airspace between the 10 NMR and 30 NMR area listed above, known as the outer
ring:
1. All aircraft operating within the outer ring listed above are limited to aircraft arriving or departing local
airfields, and workload permitting, ATC may authorize transit operations.
2. Aircraft may not loiter. All aircraft must be on an active IFR or VFR flight plan with a discrete code
assigned by an air traffic control (ATC) facility.
3. Aircraft must be squawking the discrete code prior to departure and at all times while in the TFR and
must remain in two-way radio communications with ATC.
4. Aircraft are NOT AUTHORIZED to overfly the inner core restricted airspace.
C. For operations within this TFR, all USSS vetted aircraft operators based in the area and all emergency/life
saving flight (air ambulance/law enforcement/firefighting) operations must coordinate with the United
States Secret Service prior to their departure to avoid potential delays. Contact information will be published
in the NOTAM.
D. The following operations are not authorized within this TFR:
1. Flight training
2. Practice instrument approaches
3. Aerobatic flight
4. Glider operations
5. Seaplane Operations
6. Parachute operations
7. Ultralight, hang gliding
8. Balloon operations
9. Agriculture/crop dusting
10. Animal population control flight operations
11. Banner towing operations
12. Maintenance test flights
13. Model aircraft operations
14. Model rocketry
15. Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)
16. Utility and pipeline survey operations
The NOTAM(s) discussed in this advisory may change with little or no notice. Pilots are advised to check
NOTAM(s) frequently for possible changes prior to operations in the area.

Thanks for the heads up Danny.

For those of you who are fairly new to High Rock and the Pulpit, please take the temporary flight restrictions very seriously. One of our CHGPA members worked quietly behind the scenes for months after 9/11 to get the High Rock site reopened after Osama Bin Laden's act of terrorism shut it down. Just one violation could easily shut down one or both of the sites permanently not to mention a hefty fine for the culprit. The worst case scenario is that that they take action to knock you out of the air, and that's no joke!
