Highland and Big Spring Meets

Post by mcgowantk »

Just a heads up that we can now sign up for both the Highland and Big Spring meets.

I would recommend the Highland meet to anyone who has an interest in flying cross country. Having a group of pilots to encourage and mentor you will greatly help you understand how to fly cross country. It is a fun low key event and I am looking forward to it.

Big Spring is simply the best place for flying that I have ever been. Conditions are good but not scary strong. Most of the area is flat and readily landable. The weather is very consistent so we get to fly pretty much every day. I would recommend it to anyone who has some XC experience and is interested in flying in competitions.

However, this year they have added a open distance category. If you want to fly 100 miles, this is the place. You get to avoid the competition issues and get to fly wherever you want. This should be fun for anyone who wants to get some miles but not deal with the stress of a competition.

Last year we had just over 30 pilots sign up. The airport is huge and the more folks who sign up, the more tugs. It can easily handle 50 or more without feeling the least bit crowded. And the town loves having us there.

I will be back at Big Spring for my 10th or 11th year - its getting hard to count that high!

Feel free to contact me if you have questions about Big Spring. I hope we get a good turn out from our area. Take care

Tom,

Thanks for the Big Spring info. Though you will be tired after those long flights and retrieves, please keep us up to date on your activities. I am sure I speak for the rest of the local pilots in wishing you many safe and looong flights!!
