I just got this email from Charley Allen. For those that don't know him, he is a long time pilot who recently moved to the DC area after living in NY for awhile. He flies at Highland alot and also on the competition circuit in the US. Charley has taken the initiative and created a fun competition that will be based out of Highland for 2012. The competition will be race to goal just like the big meets in the world. However it is formatted into a fun, low key learning environment for all. It will be beneficial for the up and coming pilots as they will be able to learn from some of the best XC racers from the eastern part of the US. Charley is looking to round out the field of Sport pilots (Open Class too) and I know there are a good number in the club who could enter either one. How about guys like Steve K, Matthew, Ward, Danny B, Carlos, Dan T, Dan T2, Jon B, David B, Ashley, Jesse etc. You all would have a great time and would be supporting Highland. Check out the cool website Charley created and sign up! I guarantee you will have a blast!
All,
Thanks for registering for the Highland Challenge to date there are 12 pilots registered. It would be great to get a few more sport pilots so please encourage anyone that may be on the fence to register.

Re: Highland Challenge
Awesome!
Thank You Charlie for all the leg work and Bun for the posting. I will do some investigating and see if I can finagle the time commitment from my family commitments. The forewarning and planning helps a lot.
To anyone on the fence I can highly endore that events like this are fun and fulfilling whether you are interested in the first steps out of the Fish-bowl or an avid X-C pilot or anywhere in between.

Re: Highland Challenge
If you want to learn more about not just flying XC but just plain flying better, you should sign up. This is a great chance to challenge yourself, and fly with some good pilots and learn a bunch. Even though the odds of me being able to fly every day of the event are probably nil, I have signed up. Check the list of pilots who have already signed up. This is your chance to have a lot of fun and learn at the same time. You would be amazed at what you can learn by going over your tracklog at the end of the day of a fixed task.

Alright, arm sufficiently twisted. Sounds like fun. I'm in - just signed up for the sport class. Who else?

Larry,
Thanks for the post we're now at 14 pilots!! This should be a really good time. Also if anyone knows potential drivers let me know as I would ideally like to have drivers organized for all pilots and all weekends prior to the meet.
Best,
Charlie

It would be great to see the sport class grow larger than the open class..Really looking forward to this contest ..should be a fantastic learning experience...Rich Hiegel
Re: Highland Challenge
It sounds like fun. I don't know where I'm going to be in the Spring. If I'm in the area I might sign up and park myself there for a while.
One thing I've learned from flying in the ECC. You will almost always do better flying with other pilots, and if you get a chance to fly with an open class pilot you'll likely do better still.
