Sunday 12/18 - NW

Post by jyoder111 »

Figured I'd start a thread on Sunday, so we don't get confused about which day we're talking about in the Saturday thread. I'm up for either day, but probably not both. Sunday is looking a bit better than Saturday at this point.

I'm in for Sunday @ Woodstock. Wind direction and velocity forecasts (right now) suggest that ridge-lift will be available up and down the Massanutten. Ward

Saturday AM Woodstock forecasts are still looking good for Sunday. If they hold, I plan on arriving around 10AM. Will confirm tonight. Ward

I've finished with my work-crunch, so I'm hoping for a bit of airtime on Sunday! A summary of my take on the forecasts as of 10pm is below.... Bottom line : Sunnier to the south, but light-ish; possibly strong to the north (Pulpit); winds-aloft declining for WStock, and increasing for Pulpit.

I'm leaning towards Woodstock at the moment, provided I can get myself in gear earlier than usual. :lol:

But I'm flexible: if I get on the road early, I'm certainly willing to divert if the forecasts change. So give me a call!

NWS Surface:

Woodstock : NW @ 5-10, peaking around noon, partly-sunny early, becoming sunny by 11am.

High Rock: NW->WNW @ 5-10+, peaking around 1pm, mostly-cloudy early, 50% sunny by 3pm.

Pulpit: W->WSW @ 15, steady all day, mostly-cloudy early, 50% sunny by 3pm.

ADDS 3k:

Northern VA: NW@15-20 in VA by 11am; borderline between NW@15-20 and <15mph, by 2pm

N. MD & S. PA : <15 at 11am; NW@15-20 by 2pm

Found a rather large nail in my car tire tonight. Had to put the temporary spare on. If I can't get the tire plugged tomorrow morning, I'm out. Any ideas on who would be open in Arlington on a Sunday? I suppose I could learn how to plug it myself...

Hmmm.... Forecasted winds for the Pulpit have been backed off, now looks doable there (as does High Rock). OTOH, more sun at Woodstock. Decisions, decisions....

I think the surest bet for some soaring would be The Pulpit, but I have to admit that the sunnier skies at Woodstock would make the day seem a little warmer. So I guess I'm headed that way, unless others start chiming in otherwise....
