New Paraglide Launch in Sequatchie Valley!

Post by Flying Lobster »

After years of work with the SPP club out of Atlanta and landowner Rick Jacob (you old timer HG guys probably know him) we have developed a new paraglide launch along side the existing hang glider launch at Whitwell. This is a huge development as it brings foot-launch paragliding on easterly days to the valley.

Yesterday myself and a few SPP guys had among the first flights there--certainly the first soaring flights. Although the forcast was mediocre and no thermals of suitable TI were forcasted--Whitwell delivered with spectacular thermals and most of us easily soared. I even top-landed just down the road a bit--as far as I know the first top-landing ever at Whitwell.

Just as the area is already established as a premier soaring destination in the east for sailplanes and hang gliders--I predict that soon it will be a mecca for paraglider pilots seeking big xc flights!

Yup! The TTT are one of the last hardcore bastions of HG in the east. Believe it or not--Rick Jacob himself is a panties flyer now--and a driving force in enabling paragliding in the valley by allowing his property to be used.
