Pulpit/High Rock Thurs Nov Dec 1st
Checking to see if there is any interest for some free flight on Thurs? Looks like it could be a Pulpit or High Rock day (looks like there could be some north in it).

I'm free both days. HR or Pulpit depending on conditions and participation.

I'd love to join you guys but alas I'm having a 57 year tuneup done on my left shoulder Thursday morning. Wish me a quick recovery, I'm hoping sometime in March but the experts are telling me 4-6 months. We shall see......

Absolutely speedy recovery to you Bun!! I will look forward to flying with you next season.............hopefully I'll be ready for some good XC flying then and be able to learn a thing or two from you. Let us know how you are doing and definitely if you need anything while your shoulder is immobilized.

Re: Pulpit/High Rock Thurs Nov Dec 1st
I would be interested in either Thursday or Friday. Like Matt Young, a H-2 needing observer most sites. Could there be 2 or 3 of us needing Divine Intervention? I have flown, and would go, to either Pulpit or High Rock. But I thought I saw a light NW-- anyone also thinking of Woodstock? Thanks for any thoughts, John (mob: 703/226-9066.)

Short answer, Jon and I both had good flights.
Longer answer. Jon and met at High Rock around 11:00 to find it coming in straight in at 3-5 mph. Definitely launchable, definitely not soarable. We finally convinced ourselves that if it did get soarable, we'd be way short of launch crew, so we headed to the Pulpit.
It was stronger there and eventually got soarable just as Bacil showed up. Jon launched first in the now-weakening winds and immediately went up. But, not very high. He was hanging around at 100-200 over while I waited for something a bit stronger. I finally found something to launch into--the tail end of a thermal. So after flying uncomfortably close to the rocks below, I turned left without a lot of altitude. Running down the ridge, I was steeling myself to put the Sport 2 in the secondary when I hit some nice lift. Jon and I then spent the next 1/2 hour trading top of a very short stack. The ridge lift wasn't enough to keep us up, so we had to make good use of the thermals coming through. It was difficult enough to be satisfying but not so difficult that either of us bombed out. I was doing pretty well until I ventured as far South as the radio tower. I got below ridge height there and never could get back up, so I landed in the primary where Bacil was waiting for us. Jon landed soon after.
26 minutes and 564 over. And many thanks to Bacil for driving up just to help out.

Dave summed it up nicely. It was a very rewarding flight for me having to work hard to stay in and find lift and avoid sink. Landed in the primary with a BIG smile on my face after 50 minutes of clawing, clinging, scratching and searching for lift. Max altitude was 600' over. A HUGE THANK YOU to Bacil for coming out and helping with launching and retrieving when he wasn't even going to fly. Seriously man, big thanks!!!
Day ended with a couple of cold ones at the Mountain House............perfect way to start December!!!!!
