I've been saying on this forum that the Sac is not a PG site. After going there on Friday and talking with Joe Gorrie, who manages the site, I realize I was wrong. I'm sorry for the misinformation.
Here's a picture of the site from the Hyner website
.
For a PG pilot to launch from the center of the slot, he/she would stand part way down the mound and layout across the top in the foreground of the photo. It might require two helpers to lift up the sides of the canopy so that they are even with the center.
Alternatively, there's room to layout to the right of the mound, however there's currently a tree branch that extends into the slot there that should probably be cleared prior to attempting that regularly.
The SAC is a north facing site, 600 AGL, located NE of Harrisburg, PA, ~3:30 hours from DC. It is a long drive, but the turn around from the LZ is probably the shortest of any of the sites we regularly fly. It's also the only true north site we have, right?
Joe mentioned he was happy to welcome pilots to the site who follow the protocols. The required waivers are on the Hyner Club's site here http://www.hynerclub.com/sac.php and there's good info on the Sac in the Site Guide. Of course, even experienced pilots should consult with someone who knows the site before flying.
Comments, suggestions?
Best,
Daniel
