USHPA elections coming up

Region 9 pilots,

The USHPA regional director elections are coming up soon. The board asked all the candidates to write statements declaring why they should be elected. I wrote the statement contained in the quotes below. Since I last posted on the subject I met with the USHPA staff in Colorado Springs and have been in several email and telephone conversations with Canadian who led their effort.

Please take the time to vote. Even though I am running unopposed, it is important that we show that there is support for the initiative inside our community. Thanks, Dan.

"My name is Dan Tomlinson. I am a biwingal H4/P3 pilot. I am running for Region 9 director so that I can use my position as a means to gain an audience with the National Parks Service in an attempt to pursuade them to generally permit free flight inside the National Parks.

Current regulations generally prohibit free flight inside National Parks unless specifically excepted, such as at Yosemite and Shenandoah National Parks. Recently the Canadians have successfully achieved a change in their National Parks policies from 'generally prohibited unless specifically excepted to generally permitted unless specifically excluded.' My intention is to achieve a similar arrangement in the USA.

A vote for me will be a vote supporting this initiative. Please vote.

I voted for you Dan! Thanks for stepping up to represent us. I would like to see USHPA offer us more chapter support. For example, I would like to give people the option to join the CHGPA when they join or renew their USHPA membership. They could develop a system that simplifies the job of keeping track of chapter memberships.
