that charcoal grill is ready and waiting for someone to pick up. it is a top model, roomy and in top shape. it would seem a good idea to keep it safe at high rock and under the pavilion so it doesn't deteriorate. it could be transported to the pulpit fly-in, but would definitly be ripped off if left there. maybe an arrangement could be made with the bar, they could store it and use it and we could get it and use it as we need.
i don't really have storage for it here at my place.

High Rock is practically in my back yard, I'll be there for sure!

I can bring a good-sized charcoal grill if you need it. I will also be happy to contribute food and beer.

I hope to go play in Smithsburg with the other PG pilots during the days, but will be there for the evening fun for sure.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I'm looking forward to some cool-weather camping, but so far I'm only a maybe. I've got liquid-fueled toys (stove and lantern). If I can go, I'll look into picking up Gary's grill.

Is Emma Jane expecting us?

David, good question... Can somebody let Emma Jane know that we planned our get-together for that weekend?

High Rock 30th Anniversary and Reunion

Post by Spark »

I saw the post and it cause me to flash back a few years. I wish I could be there to fly or hang out with yall.

I was privileged to be able to live within 20 minutes of the Rock for a few years. For the 30th anniversary fly in, I solicited High Rock photos from the community and received many, going back to the 70's. I created a video / slideshow with the photos.

it seems that YouTube embedding isn't working ...

anyway ... I express my deep appreciation and gratitude for Emma Jane Carbaugh , her family, CHGpA, Washington county, and all of the pilots who have worked to care for and preserve one of the truly unique and wonderful flying sites on the planet.

peace,
'Spark

I called Emma Jane, and she's cool with us camping in her field.

Looks like a pleasant weekend weatherwise. In case the flying is scarce, I'm planning on bringing a shovel with hopes of filling in some ruts in Coffee Pot Lane.

Don't forget to RSVP and say what you are bringing to the potluck. I'll bring dessert.

Weekend forecast looks like two nice autumn days with launch-able conditions.

For those who might want to fly on Friday: The forecast is for NE -> N by the end of the day at High Rock. High Rock *can* be pretty good on N days, especially if there's a good amount of sun. Velocity is forecast to be on the strong-ish side (15) at the moment... But that could easily change, and of course, lighter cycles might be present.

Just wanted to put an idea in people's heads, in case you are able to get away on Friday. Anyone interested?

Why not try the SAC? It is the best place to fly in due N winds. Joe Gorrie is off tomorrow and looking to fly his home site. Karen Gorrie will be there too. Might be a bunch of others there tomorrow from the Hyner club as well. Give it a whirl. Bacil

Still looks like Bill's Hill Sled-A-Palooza for Saturday. Wind forecast is a bit better-- so we might get lucky later in the day. It's about 1:15 from Bill's back to HR LZ.

Or who is up for a tail wind launch off the rock?

Hi
Does anyone know if SAC is a P-2 site and, if so, is any willing observer going to be there Friday or Saturday? I have heard of some really nice flights from SAC.

Hi, John-

Sorry to say the the Sac is practically speaking not launchable in a PG. It's a fairly shallow slope with a small dirt mound on top that's necessary to have enough altitude to clear the trees at the bottom of the slot. There's not enough room on the mound to layout a wing.

Best,
Daniel

Well, because a late-day run up to High Rock might have been possible for me, without having to take much time off. Not so The Sac.

I'm less optimistic than yesterday, looks like it will be pretty solid NNE all day. High Rock does sometimes make its own weather, especially on sunny days.... But I dunno, looking pretty iffy.

BTW: Bills Hill is likely to need some work, so probably a good idea to bring along implements of destruction.

You guys looking to fly The Sac (aka "North Site" back in the day) need to check in with Joe Gorrie before flying to sign waivers and get the low down. I know that most of you know this but it seems that some don't... I'm just saying.

BTW, it certainly is looking good there 2morrow. A bit breezy but the site can handle the winds pretty well. Good luck!

I'm thinking Bills Hill on Saturday then going to the High Rock party.

David Bodner, are you picking up the grill from Gary?

Do we have a means to make a fire at High Rock? It's gonna be cold!

Sorry, I can't get Gary's BBQ. I'm pretty full.

Maybe the club trash can o' paper products will magically show up. But, I recommend everyone bring their own plate, mug, fork, whatever.

I'll be hitting the grocery store on the way to Ft. Ritchie to pick up whatever catches my fancy.
