Great day at Highland! There was a crowd of students and tandems there when I arrived at 10am, as well as Carlos who was tapping dew off his glider, having stayed the night. In the course of the day I spoke to / flew with Tom McGowan, John Dullahan, Carlos (as mentioned), Steve Kinsley ? Houman, ? Enricke? Paul ? Kirk? Heather and John … some students …. hmmm might have been more. At one point there were five gliders in line waiting for a tow.
I did two pattern tows early, moving the fin from mid-way to high up and then got my first two aerotow flights without the fin! Felt like a milestone! Went just fine – of the four landings all were fine, but two (including the last!) were very good zero/one-steppers!
Clear skies and nice lift in places. The two full tows yielded a 25 minute and a 31 minute soaring flight for me, but during the last flight, taking off at about 2:30, the others got much more – John Dullahan flew off XC and Carlos ended up retrieving him, Kirk, Paul and ?John? got 1 ½ hour flights.
I’m very happy to have gotten to a fin-less tow status and a few soaring flights in my S2 at Highland. Had fun talking w/ Erica (Adam’s sister) and Heather and others. Nice end to the season, if this is my last day.
