Friday (July 22) Flying

I'd like to fly tomorrow. High Rock is not an option, due to POTUS proximity (see below). I'm thinking of Cumberland, or Pulpit, or whatever. Anybody else interested? I'll be free by about 12:30pm. Before 11:30 I can be reached at 304-535-6178

Flyday Frying Report

Hot, humid & initially hazy. Light winds (<10) NW-NNW.

We all self-launched from the old ramp. I flew the Tandem wing (solo) and found no lift worth turning in. Bruce flew his 225 and got more of the same. We landed in the secondary. The grass in the center strip is still (relatively) short.


Upper cloud cover cleared a bit and conditions improved slightly. Kevin launched Bruce's topless (a Laminar MRX) and was able to stay up.

Shawn retrieved Bruce and I, and headed for commitments at home - thanks Shawn.

Back up top in winds of maybe 8-10, I launched PG and soared for awhile, scratching the ridge in thermal lift, but not high enough to circle. I got low out over the power line slot looking for lift, and opted to head forthe emergency LZ, touching down as close as possible to Route 16.

Kevin landed soon afterward, in the upper main LZ. Bruce drove down and picked us up. The grass in the upper main is maybe a foot deep. The corn and beans in the lower field have grown significantly in the past month, making the center strip of hay even less appealing for landing.

Back up top for the 3rd time, wind was STFI at maybe 5-7. Kevin flew my PG, landing in the HG secondary.

Spark called me around noon, and said that He, Bruce,and Kevin were going to do some flying.I was just gimping around, so I thought I could retrieve, and snap some shots. I was trying to repay Spark for all the times he retrieved me and snapped shots.I didn't get to fly, but I had just as much fun. Kevin, Bruce, and Sparky were very happy to answer any question that popped in my head. "INVALUABLE" Kevin got me to look at the sky in a different way. FLY THE SKY! That was the first time I met Kevin. I had seen him flying at Cheese hill one time with a broken leg, and being towed into the air by two guys pulling on ropes! I was just stoked to get out of the house, and be able to help out.
I had fun!!
