Hello,

How late is this meeting likely to run? I have an appointment that will run until 8:30 or so, which means I would not likely make it there until about 9:00. Would the meeting still be going at that point?

(By the way, I should probably introduce myself. Hi. I'm a semi-new pilot...I went through about a year of foot launch training with John Middleton a couple years ago, but then life intervened and I had to stop. The life stuff is now taken care of, mostly, so I'm coming back to flying. I've just signed up for the Highland package and am aiming to get to full-on flying in the next year.)

Oh, forgot to answer your question, sorry Aaron. My guess is that things won't really get going until 8:00, and that the meeting will be wrapping up by about 10:00. If you are pretty sure about a 9:00 ETA then it's probably worth swinging by.

Cheers,

Coming up so don't forget...

We'll need a headcount for ordering the pizza. Also feel free to leave a comment if you have a preference for certain pizza toppings.

Thanks to Matthew and Karen for hosting the meeting! Thanks to David for bringing the martinis!

High Rock – the oldest cliff launch on the east coast! A lot of effort has been put in to restore this treasured site.

High Rock “Ballroom” Steps
Pictures were passed around showing the repairs, but not the finished project. Would someone post pictures of the new steps?
Total cost of the step repairs is $3700, which is way over the original estimate of $500. We discussed the need for a CHGPA lead on all future projects to ensure costs don't exceed estimates without club approval.
However, we've received $2200 in donations from our members! That's huge support that indicate how important this site is for our community.
$1500 is the remainder. The club voted to authorize payment of half of the remainder to split the costs with the MHGA. $750 of club funds were approved.
Mark indicated there may already be some erosion under the steps and volunteered to monitor the situation.
Matthew suggested some work needs to be done to shore up the cracks in the cube.

High Rock “Canyon” Road
The club approved the funds to repair the road at our last meeting (Pulpit Fly-In). $2600 is the estimate with verbiage not to exceed this amount.
The work hasn't yet begun, which is probably a good thing since we're about to be hit by a hurricane, but will begin as soon as the contractor can get it scheduled.
There was some discussion about moving the High Rock Fly-In date pending the road fix (currently scheduled for September 10-11th). Matthew’s suggestion was to move it to October 15-16th. The board will consult the lunar calendar and make a decision next week.

FFF Grant money
We plan to submit our application for grant money for both High Rock projects to the Foundation for Free Flight next month.

Our repair efforts make the site much more friendly. Matthew encouraged pilots fly High Rock on L&V days instead of going to Ridgely. We also discussed launch safety and the need to speak up if you see something out of place. We’re all responsible for each other’s safety.

Pulpit LZ
A landowner expressed displeasure regarding the speed on the dirt road. Even if you think you’re going the posted speed, go slower. We need to preserve this LZ to ensure the site remains open. This goes for all roads near our flying sites.

Fisher Road LZ
There’s renewed interest in reopening this site. Matthew suggested a lump sum payment to the primary LZ landowner with offerings of stipulations that we call ahead to get approval before we plan to fly. If that fails we can contact the owner of the huge piece of land to the left of launch and landowners halfway down the ridge, but re-opening the primary LZ is the goal.

Stay tuned for confirmation of High Rock Fly-In dates.
