Hello!

Post by Kernow »

Hi! my name is Alex Treseder im a British pilot who has just recently moved to Johnstown PA. I did a little research before i flew out and noticed 'the pulpit' flying site wasn't to far from my new abode. I was wondering if any local pilots could help me out with advice on the correct weather conditions, permits or membership required or indeed anything else that would help me have a safe/ enjoyable time.
I have been flying a little over a year and a half, but due to work considerations i have only clocked up 40 hours of airtime. I consider myself a low air time pilot even though i have my BHPA (www.bhpa.co.uk) pilots award. I have flown in several countries including the French alps, South Africa , Portugal , India and in my home in Cornwall , UK. I have done a little XC but most of my flights are from ridges. I fly a Swing Arcus 6 , a low end DHV1/2 with a red/white colour.
Cant think any thing else to write about now as im having a panic attack. United Airlines baggage department have misplaced my wing. I had better get back on the phone to them.
All the best and thanks.
Alex
p.s if any pilot lives near Johnstown, Ill happily extract information out of them the old way, using beer!

Welcome Alex. I hope you find your baggage!

You will need convert your foreign pilot rating to a USHPA rating before flying in the US. An instructor or observer can help you convert your rating. http://ushpa.aero/instructors_map.asp

CHGPA membership is also required to fly The Pulpit and the majority of our sites. As a member you will gain access to our site guide which explains wind directions and site protocols.

CHGPA or MHGA membership is required for the Pulpit. Is that a more accurate statement? No waiver is required as long as you've paid some sort of dues to one of these clubs. Either full membership or Pulpit only membership. Our clubs collect funds to help pay for insurance at The Pulpit.

Unless the rules have formally changed a visiting pilot can purchase a weekend pass - that's how the pulpit fly-in is possible for instance.
