MOAA Article for Valerie

Post by CraginS »

I was telling Valerie about Matthew's magazine article a few years ago, highlighting many GIs in the sport. Since she is not registered as a member user of the forum, I can't send a PM or get her e-mail here.
Here is the article link:

Wow - that was seven years ago!

Thanks for the article Cragin - but don't know what gave you the impression you couldn't PM. I've exchanged PM with many (and did just yesterday evening). I am a registered user. I'm also a member, and have been sending notes to the Admin and to MarkC asking what does it take to be officially shown as being in that group on the forum but those PMs are sitting in my 'out' box, unread by recipient. So ... ? Any advice welcome.

Valerie,

The PM feature of this website isn't terribly reliable. Often the outgoing mail will get stuck in the outbox for an indefinite period. If they are still showing up in your outbox then they haven't been received by the intended recipient. You should contact them another way.

the actual problem is that some people aren't in the habit of checking, but you can check a box in User Control Panel/ Board Preferences to have a notice sent to your email account if someone sends you a pm. If a pm is sitting in your out box it is because the person has not opened it, once it has been opened it is immediately shuffled into your sent box. this has been my experience, without exception.

btw, it is easy to verify this by sending yourself two messages - when you receive them, open only one, it will be moved into your sent box while the other will remain in your out box.

Yes, PM's are a bit counter-intuitive given the familiar way that email works (hit 'send', and it's either delivered, or it bounces back).

If a PM remains in your Outbox, then that means that your PM hasn't yet been opened/read by its recipient(s).

And I'm guilty of it too... Especially when the real-world intrudes on forum tasks. I'll try to get you in the CHGPA-Members group soon Valerie.
