New P2s

Post by Soodk »

Hi-

We are two novice paragliders that just moved to the DC area.

A little bit about our limited flying experience: We got our licenses in upstate New York over a summer in 2009. We have clocked about 30 hrs of flying each since getting our licenses. We have been flying in rather beginner-friendly conditions, and under senior pilot/instructor observance.

We are quite keen on adding to our flying time in and around our new home. I gather from the website that there are quite a few sites to fly, but probably not as reliable weather conditions. We will love to join the local flying community on weekends, particularly get some guidance on the preferred sites to fly each weekend and some observation/guidance/instruction to the sites.

Hope to hear from you all.

Cheers,
Karan

Woo-hoo! More new pilots!!! That's great to hear, welcome Karan + other.

I'm not a PG'er, but my impression is that some of the sites in our area (Woodstock & Pulpit & Dickey's) can be challenging, compared to other sites such as Daniel's Mtn and Bill's Hill (the latter is an east site, and not often flyable). So getting some feedback from the locals who know what they're doing, and what your experience is, is a must. Hopefully some of them will chime in on this topic in order to give you some pointers.

Welcome to the area, I hope that we will see you skying-out at one of the area sites very soon!

A good chance to find/meet observers would be at the CHGPA fly-in coming up (see that thread on the forum). Its also worth noting that Saturday there will be a parachute repack/deployment clinic. Have you thrown or repacked your reserve chutes recently?

welcome Karan + other!

All our sites with the exception of Bill's Hill require P2s to fly with an observer (and even Bill's Hill you will need one for the first time flying there).

So, feel free to give me a call (703-five three six - 3209) - I try to fly at least once per weekend. I'll be happy to introduce you to our sites - car pooling would probably be a good idea not just for environmental and fiscal reasons ;-) but also to give us time to talk about the specifics of whatever site we are going to.

There are not a lot of PG pilots around, so you won't see a lot of chatter on the forum, but we're here and hope you will fly with us often!
