Saturday May 7th
Forecast looking pretty good right now at launch and at altitude. Woodstock or Pulpit anyone?

At the moment, it's looking like either High Rock or the Pulpit on Saturday, for those hoping for a mountain HG day. I'm holding my breath.... Haven't had a true springtime flight yet this year, would surely be nice if the forecasted conditions come to pass!

As far as observers go, Bacil and Ward are at a wedding Saturday. Anyone else available? Matthew, sounds like you might be?

Sweet! I can get there whenever. What's the plan?
Re: Saturday May 7th
Hi Jesse,
Unless a miracle occurs, no matte what time we get up in the morning we can't seem to get out of the house till 10am. So we will be there by noon. If you want to be ready and be wind dummy when we arrive--- that's OK. I prefer to wait till after 1pm to fly Pulpit to allow the sun to heat up the valley.

I'll probably get there around 11am. Matthew, see you around noon.
Re: Saturday May 7th
Totally in! Crossing my fingers that it will be as good as we are all hoping it to be....
Anyone else get that little thrill of anticipation, as you walk around the house, seeing all those batteries charging and LEDs blinking?

Rethinking the forecast. Now predicting 75% cloud cover and 50% chance of rain at the Pulpit. Considering Highland. I am pretty sure Pulpit will be flyable and probably ridge soarable, just not super thermal day. Open to options.

I'm seeing some things that have me much less enthusiastic about the Pulpit this morning Rain in Pgh, which seems to be headed for south-central PA. 50% chance of rain at the Pulpit, with lots of cloud cover predicted by early afternoon. Hmmmm.....
I hate decisions like this!

Heading for Highland. At least will have more sun and maybe I can get a couple of flights to tweak the tuning.

Cavanaugh and Dan T. are heading to Edith's Gap to mark the slot and then heading to Woodstock. I guess we are also bailing to Highland. I called Jesse with the bad news.

Ugh. 40 miles down the road when Matthew called- turned around and came home. Looks like it would have been a good H2 ridge soaring day at the Pulpit.
Re: Saturday May 7th
Sorry to have contributed to the negativity Jesse.... Forecasts are just forecasts, and it could have been ok at the Pulpit. But in my case, since it clearly wasn't going to be stellar, I reverted to giving Dan Tm a hand with the Edith's Gap project.
We spent 2+ hours optimistically marking what we would like to see done, in order for the slot to be very PG and HG friendly, and to ensure a fairly long-term solution (trees grow, eh?). Don't know how much the foresters are willing to tackle, but it can't hurt to ask. And I suppose the larger the slot, the more of the invasive vegetation we can eradicate!
From there, we headed to Woodstock via the Edinburg Gap, stopping at a roadside spring that Dan knew of for some very refreshing and cool water. Left a vehicle in the LZ, picked up Marc Fink, and headed up top. PG'er Dave, and another I don't know, had both flown, the latter getting above launch for a short soaring flight. Pete S was at launch, waiting/hoping for conditions to get better.
They didn't. Lazslo and Ellis arrived, refugees from dark clouds and rain at Dickey's. They, and Marc F, and Dave, all took PG sleds. Dan Tm elected not to fly. Pete backed off, and I only did a half setup. On the productive side, Pete and I trimmed a couple of saplings that had grown up a bit at the end of the slot.
The highlight of the night was at Christina's in Strasburg : We had dinner, and enjoyed an acoustic blues guitar (and harmonica) musician, the first of three on the slate for the night.
Then on home for a shower, and a serious tick-check

PS: More details on the bail-out LZ to follow, left the diagram in the truck.

Re: Saturday May 7th
Great job guys!!!!
Saturday at Highland wasn't as stellar as Sunday. Very windy on the ground and tows were often nasty city. Still, we got up. I got about an hour and 5500' on my first flight and a half hour on my second flight after breaking my release (not my weak link-- my release!) at 1500'. And then a skydiver dive bombed me-- I kept turning to get away and the skydiver kept coming right at me. Ugh! Carlos got up to 5600'. Joe Gregor, Karen, Steve K., Marcelo (?) and Paul also had good soaring flights. I think Paul flew 7 times. Dave P., Kirk and a few tandems also flew.
