High Rock ramp temporary fix

Post by Richard Hays »

Glen Hardy has graciously offerred to lend his expertise ( he's a building contractor ) to create a "walk-up" to the eroding ramp situation at High Rock. This will not interfere with the existing structure or historic columms or...any efforts we may take on to replace the exisiting ramp area per previously discussed plans to do so. Tim Hurrlinger and Gregory have also volunteered their expertise ( also contractors ) and several MHGA members have expressed an interest to volunteer sweat equity.

Estimated cost for materials for this effort are around 500.00 Again; this it an effort to create an access to the existing structure using landscaping timbers, fill and concrete as needed. Maybe we could also "pass around the hat" at our meetings and maybe if people could throw in $ 5.00 here and there...it would be cool.

Dave Churchill has given his official nod towards the project, as do I. The clubs will split the cost and donations are greatly appreciated to offset the financial drain on each club. Volunteers will also be needed when the call goes out. That is up to Glen, Gregory and Tim to let us know. I do hope everyone supports this proposed effort.

Lookit; this may not even happen but if it does I think its a good thing. I was up there the other day and its pretty gnarly getting up to the pad. High Rock is not being utilized as it should be, given its our best and closest site to Baltimore and Washington. We need to make a concious effort to fly it as often as possible to keep Emma and Company focused on us, vs. other potential pursuits in the LZ. Making a accessible friendly launch will aid in that effort. And...with daylight savings time in full swing, weekday after-work flying at High Rock makes mid-week soaring a breeze ( pun intended ).

Stay tuned.

We should make checks out to the club treasurers, and let them reimburse from club funds. Assuming a go-ahead from the CHGPA Board, I am in for $50.00.

Carlos and Bob, let us know when you are ready to receive checks.

Thanks Craign

In a moment of weakness... I'm in for the other $450... minus 2011 CHGPA/MHGA yearly dues (which I haven't paid yet.)

I may not be able to physically help get it done so this is my contribution to the cause.

This sounds great! I am more than willing to make a monetary, and depending on work date, a physical contribution. Should we just make the check out to our respective club (CHGPA) or should it go somewhere specific??

thanks,

Thanks guys! I just left Glen a message on his phone about this posting and that the ball is in his court so....thanks for the awesome response and contributions.

I'm thinking the donations should be sent in to the prospective clubs specifically designated for the HR work. That way we can track who contributed what. And as mentioned previously in the thread; cut the re-imbursement checks from the clubs funds when we know what the finally tally will be. We both have meetings coming up in June so..maybe that would be a good time to attend a meeting and donate.

Thanks everyone!

CHGPA is 501c3. Donations to the club are tax deductible, assuming you itemize your taxes. No tax advice here....just saying. If you can deduct it you can donate more :-)

Way to go Danny! I really miss flying there--though we have plenty of cliff launches down here!

I'm in for $100. If because of Danny's generosity we are oversubscribed, we can find a way to make a donation to the Carbaughs...
