Jon Brantley and I are considering a day at Smithsburg on Saturday. Good exercise will keep you warm, and good launch and landing practice. High of about 30 Saturday. Looking west as well. Bacil

Snow predicted tomorrow at Smithsburg. It's fun to fly in. Looking forward to generating some wingtip vortices that will be brought to life by the swirling snow. Bacil

Amy congratulations on getting your wing back! I hope you are out at Smithsburg flying the heck out of it. If you get this message on time let me suggest that you start low and slow until you build your confidence up.

Welcome back!

Although I did not fly today (winds were cranking!), I had a great time hanging out at Smithsburg! Here are some pictures of the day....

Super fun day!!! Thank you Amy for those awesome photos! Watching Eddie fly was really neat, doing multiple passes back and forth!! I had a blast launching from half way up the hill and there was plenty of lift to be had. Getting the glider back up the hill and setting up for launch was great ground handling practice as well. Big thanks to Bacil for showing us some tricks of the trade to handling the gliders in stronger conditions.
Can't wait to get back out there again..........probably Monday.........

Great pictures Amy. Thanks for posting them. I got there at 12 noon to find Jesse and Eddie setting up. Put in the customary 6 windsocks and Hall ASI at the top. Blowing in a nice 10 to 15 MPH with NNW/WNW directions here and there, but mainly straight up the hill. Eddie and Jesse hit the hill and started the action. Jon and Amy showed up after 12:30P and Jon joined the others as soon as he could set up. I set up after helping Jon and Jesse acclimate to the challenging ground handling, glider parking, and launching conditions ever present. I got in 3 flights, the second one very exciting. Eddie was set to take off, and the big spinners in the field were showing something big brewing. I hollered at him that something big was coming soon. He launched and just missed the rampup that hit not but 30 seconds after he launched. At the top it ramped up to 25 to 30 MPH as indicated on the Hall ASI. I waited for it to settle down and enlisted Amy's help. It was blowing 20 when I rotated into the wind and became airborne immediately. Drifted sideways to the SW for a few seconds, then penetrated forward and hit some lift midway down the hill and gained a good 50'. Hit some more lift at the bottom and gained another 50'. Landed way the heck out past the windsocks, making for a long carry back to the top for the final flight. Called it a day as the final landing approach produced 3 touchdowns. Jesse got in 11 flights as the manimal of the day. Jon got in 4 flights, and Eddie got in a bunch as well. Stayed toasty warm with all the exercise carrying the glider up the hill in wind and 2 inches of snow. Looking forward to the next sub 30 degree Smithsburg day. Bacil
