Pulpit/Smithsburg Sunday 12/5
West winds at 10 to 15 knots predicted on the Chesapeake Bay forecast for Sunday. Looks like a Pulpit/Smithsburg forecast, depending on your tolerance for the cold. Whaddya think Jon and Amy ? Bacil
Re: Pulpit/Smithsburg Sunday 12/5
Sounds perfect!!! Hopefully I'll have a hold of my bar mitts by then!
Re: Pulpit/Smithsburg Sunday 12/5
Would love to fly Smithsburg this weekend... will talk with John M. and see where he is teaching.
Apparently the parts and pieces for my glider are on their way. Steve said that it would only take a few days after they arrive to get humpty-dumpty back together again. Wooo hooo!!!

Still leaning toward High Rock for Saturday-- Pulpit looks possibly blown out and cross. Also, it's always much colder at the Pulpit.
Any H2s who want to work on their CL and AWCL sign-offs, let me know. I can Observe.

400' higher translates to maybe 2 degrees Farenheit colder on an unstable day (5 degrees/1K'). Wow that's a lot colder . That minor detail will never deter the Tuscarora Air Force from their mission objective. . BacilMatthew wrote:Saturday-- Pulpit looks possibly blown out and cross. Re: Pulpit/Smithsburg Sunday 12/5
Yes- that's about 10 percent colder than it was at High Rock.

Re: Pulpit/Smithsburg Sunday 12/5
And that doesn't amount to a hill of beans when you are in the air. You get higher, you get colder. You fly faster, you get colder. An unnecessary data point that doesn't need to be debated in relation to what site you are flying at. Bacil
Re: Pulpit/Smithsburg Sunday 12/5
"A hill of beans"-- golly gee Mr. Bacil. Bein' knee-high to a grasshopper and all, I sure didn't mean to open a can of worms.
Shucks!

Re: Pulpit/Smithsburg Sunday 12/5
maybe it just seems colder because it blows harder at the Pulpit?

I think he meant degrees F. It might've made more sense in Kelvins, but I don't what Mr. Pierce would say about that. (baddah-boom!)10% of what? difference between body and air temperature is the only thing that makes sense in this context)

Hey Matthew,
The term “doesn't amount to a hill of beans” in colloquial American is a symbol for something of trifling value, as in expressions like, “it ain’t worth a hill of beans”. Most of us, if not all, already understand its descriptive use, so your disrespect of Bacil by suggesting that a valid American term is beneath our view of correct communication, is way out of line. Your reasons for opting to fly High Rock instead of the Pulpit last weekend are just that: your opinion and your personal choice, which we respect. Your decision is certainly are not above question. Disrespecting one of us - hurts all of us.

personally i'm cool if you guys get a kick out of flicking one another's noses now an then ('been known to engage in a bit of that myself . it's just that, from time to time, the two of you tend to make us a bit nervous . 'can't always tell wether you're just a typical old married couple or if a restraining order will be needed

(notice the smiley faces . yeah, i know, they seem a bit emasculating from time to time, but it keeps mark happy so it's probably worth it)

Re: Pulpit/Smithsburg Sunday 12/5
Then you need to do like the rest of us and put a smiley face in every once in a while . What started this whole shebang was not only butting in to two separate threads clearly of different subject matter (which you have every right to, but unnecessary), but the questionable reasoning of the Pulpit being colder, so don't go there??? I just had to call you out on that one . And I did it with some humor. But you just couldn't let it go . And 10 percent? That implies you only fly in a 20 degree temperature spread window. More like 3.333333(on and on) percent. But then again, it just doesn't matter, even if one site is 400' higher than the other. Now let's get cold next weekend somewhere .Matthew wrote:Whoa!

Again with the smiley faces?
You don't need smiley faces when something is clearly absurd!

Re: Pulpit/Smithsburg Sunday 12/5
This seems relevant to the thread:
Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or Endothermic (absorbs heat)?
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.
As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different Religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially.
Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
So which is it?If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over.
The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore extinct, leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a Divine Being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."

Probably a bit late to be stepping in as a forum cop on this thread.... But I'm going to do it
anyway, especially since the imminent decrease in airtime for many (ie, winter) is likely to
encourage flames and misunderstandings in coming months.

ahah! now that you've revealed that you're still alive and kicking i can harangue you (nyuk, nyuk) about showing up tonight. you had made some promises to me (beer is not an excuse), and although i'll not hold you to them, it sure would be nice to see that bright and shining face of yours.

i seem to recall a recommendation of yours that in order to have a good turn out one needs to send emails and such and contact people personally. boy, am i good at turning anything that anyone has said around to my advantage, or what?!
