Hi,
I've been interested in flying for a long time but recently have seen some powered paragliders in the area and am now convinced that I want to learn how to do it. It looks like I may have to wait until spring and go to WV or NC to learn, right? I would love to hear from others about being a newbie in the sport.
Coincidental to my being approved today for forum posting on chgpa is this Groupon deal for a $49 hang-gliding intro lesson...I apologize in advance if this seems sketchy (being my first post and all) but I hope some people might be able to use it for friends or relatives who might be thinking about getting into the sport. Re: Intro and Groupon for $49 intro lesson
Hi Jules - it seems the groupon website doesn't allow you to go directly to the individual groupon pages without signing in as the owner of the groupon. Automatic redirect kicks in. State who the instructor is and let people contact you by private message to get the groupon number.
For power paragliding, check out the Dukes of Windsoar: http://www.dukesofwindsoar.com if you haven't already. They are a club and don't give lessons, but can get you hooked up with those who do.

I had another Richmond friend send me the same Groupon today. It's valid through April 25, 2011.
Are you only interested in powered paragliding? What about free flight? Local schools will be shutting down for the season, but if you have time and money you could learn to fly in sunny, Southern California.

Oh, i should have noticed Richmond. Almost definitely Steve Wendt. I hope it's working for him and other instructors give groupon a try.

Thanks
Oops sorry about the Groupon stuff - yes, it's Blue Sky. I think you have to be signed up to search for Richmond VA groupons to see the offer which can be purchased for a few more days.
I checked the website you provided and the page says they aren't active but I will try...I'm most interested in powered, and am wanting to keep it local for now at least. I understand that has its disadvantages. I had contacted Blue Sky earlier this week and they don't do anything with ppg and were quite limited in the pg area. I was hoping that if there was a ppg pilot in the area he or she would speak up.

Hi Jules;
Im a very recent member of this group myself.
I saw your interested in PPG.
If you want a look around at pilots flying PPG there is
a group that bought land and flies in the Morgantown area
of Pa.
As mentioned previously the group is at
pappg.com
I have been mostly flying PPG myself
but want to get more involved with free-flight.
I think they are both lots of fun so try both before
you decide.
Good luck, Mouse
