Had a good flight yesterday, but better take advantage of sunny days. I'll try again today.
(Found a camel back in the parking lot, unless someone got its probably still there, if yours contact me)
Got to Woodstock at 1P with clear skies and light conditions. Within the next half hour Matthew, Karen, Ashley, and Carlos showed up. Around 2P it started ramping up (the frontal passage) but the cycles were way cross from the west. Launched at 2:30P into straight in light air in the slot and got clear of the slot quickly. Got hit by a wall of air from the left and cranked a 70 degree left turn into the river of air flowing down the ridge at 25 knots. Stair-stepped my way up above the ridge in the worst rotor chop I've experienced. At times I was going backwards, albeit very slowly. After gaining up to a few hundred over the ridge it smoothed out some (still choppy) so the white knuckle grip on the basetube could be relaxed. Inched my way down to Waonaze Peak and the west facing ridge below it. Spent a good 1:15 down there sniffing for lift over the rockpiles. Maintained mostly between 3300' and 3600' MSL, with a 25 knot headwind out of the west. Found one thermal that got me to 4400' MSL. Could have tried jumping the gap, but the west cross today was stronger than yesterday's. Ashley joined me down at the gap for a good while and found good lift behind Waonaze Peak. After two hours in the air I had had enough, so I staged way out in front of the ridge and let the west cross push me quickly towards the main LZ. Another turbulent approach and nice landing at 5P. Matthew, Carlos, and Randy also flew. Matthew landed after I did and commented on how trashy it was on approach. Ashley, Carlos, and Randy put down in succession after Matthew. Karen broke down on top. Bacil
