Believe it or not, it seems that the pattern again is setting up for a nice Jacks day this Saturday. Based upon the past 2 Saturdays, both being cloudy, and this time looking more like the sun will make much more of an appearance, looks like a sure bet to me. 3 weeks in a row soarable? We'll see. weather.com for State College for the weekend. Also, the temp trend for Friday thru Sunday is rising. That's usually an indicator of winds generally from the south bringing warmer air in. The winds look pretty light. However, since Jacks is so steep (like Woodstock), needing not too much of a wind into launch to ridge soar, plus the fact that it faces SE (gets sun all day), it looks like a good bet if you want to fly the mountains on Saturday. If we don't get discouraged by the high pressure system, the NY contingent will be camping at the Pulpit and flying Jack's.

The light wind and lack of clouds kinda worries me for soarability. I hope your prognosis is correct, Bacil.

Unless some alfalfa or corn has been harvested I don't think a tandem is a good idea: the farmer's been pretty sensitive about stuff being mashed down. So a rolling landing is out, and a cross-wind stand-up landing with a tandem passenger? Sounds risky.

Any indications of harvest when you were there last week, Bacil?

No sign of harvest yet, according to Shawn MacDuff. The strip that most landed in on 8/14 was quite green on 8/21 and no one landed there on Saturday. The cut rolling strip may be the only acceptable local landing area. Bacil

I have flown my PG there where I inflated before the guard rail and stepped over it if I remember correctly.

Ya, I only wheel it in on tandem. May bail and fly the trike to Canaan instead. Yup, (PG/guard rail) trick is to step over the rail without unweighting the glider. There has been a subtle modification to the rail so it is low enough... - Hugh

Because the launch is only partially trimmed Shawn is advising not to launch in low wind conditions. I hope somebody tries it on saturday, the forecast conditions are a data point I don't have for Jack's.
