New York to Pulpit
So one of the Ellenville pilots saw one of Dan Tuck's woodstock videos, and wants to bring a crew down. I told him a better option would be to camp at the Pulpit so you will be centrally located and can go where the wind blows. So the question is, how's the grass in the setup area?
If they do it, it will probably be near the end of august. I'd come along of course.

The grass is long and gone to seed, the weather has been extremely dry and the grass is easily trampled down and manageable.84 in Mercersburg last nite at 1 am,cooler on the mountain,72 in McConnellsburg at 1:15.RichB

thanks. So when/if they go a scythe may be useful without cracking too much sweat.

Okay, I tried to talk them into the Pulpit fly-in, but there's a planned trip to Utah that conflicts. So a bunch of snowbirds should show up on the weekend of Aug 28. I'll probably be up friday, if any of the NY crowd comes up then it would be nice if some locals were there to welcome them. We'll be calling around for weather advice.

Sounds good! With the new gravel ramp, PGers have adopted the Pulpit, timesharing with HG based on wind velocity. Ben Brooks, a relatively new P3 (couple years?) did 26 miles and three states a couple of weeks ago - landed in West Virginia! - Hugh

Or they could go to HR and experience a cliff launch.

There was some (half-serious) talk about putting nets up over the stairs leading up to the new structure to hold the wing up so you could bring it up into the wind... - Hugh
Re: New York to Pulpit
the ability to strike out in all directions and experience sites like High Rock was a major selling point. I'm hoping we can groom some new cliff launchers if the weather cooperates.

FYI, John mowed the grass, but a little more wacking would be good too.
