Blue Sky/ Aug. 7th and 8th

Post by RichH »

Here we go again ..Sat is looking like the better of the 2 days again this weekend..Currently, Sat's forecasting fairly strong thermal conditions in the 500+ range. There is the chance of some high cloudness creeping into the area on sat that could change the thermal forecast to a lower range but still looking like a very decent day shaping up.. Winds are forecasted to be light and generally from the North..Lower Humidty on sat 51% and lower surface winds also helps with our chances of good thermal production..Sunday is a tough call right now but it appears there is a chance of a light weather system moving into the area sometime Sunday which could produce a passing shower (Only 20% chance) in some areas of virginia.higher humidity level 67% with stronger surface winds predicted out of the east at 10+ 115mph ( May be stronger) ..

Its still looking better for sat but sunday may turn out to be a decent day as well ..Now the latest update is 0% chance of precep..on Sat with NE winds 5-10 on the surface the threat of high cloudiness appears now is forcasted to stay to the south on sat..Thermal velocity to be in the 400-450 range..cloudbase appears to be 5000' or so..Sunday still appears to have the chance for stonger wins on the surface with east winds 10-15 mph + on the surface..Hope to see u out there!!

Saturday was a pretty incredible day at Blue Sky..It started with low tows most were only getting between 600 and 700 ft off of tow but the first three pilots ..Peter, John and Dave all climbed slowly out ..Then it was a bit of time before three other pilots were able to climb up ..Paul (a new Hang 2 getting his first soaring flight) and Bob then Rich..again climbed out ..Lift was abundant once you got above 1100 ft or so ..You could expect tight rocket cores down low but as you climbed above 3000ft you could easily broaden your circles and climb at a very good rate..All of us were flying to points around the field several miles distant ..Think several pilots again climbed to close to 7000' ..I bailed at 5500' since I was only in a t-shirt and could easily boat around staying comfortably between 4 and 5 thousand..A new Duration record was had as John landed close to 7:30pm (this is over flat ground now!!) for a 5 1/2 hour flight..Way to go John!! I was also impressed with Paul flying his new wills wing glider for his first soaring flight over 1 1/2 hours...Actually an incredibel day with exceptional climb rates and lift going very late into the day! iF YOU WERENT AT bLUE sKY U SIMPLY MISSED OUT!!!
