PTT issues

Post by Ward Odenwald »

My motocom push-to-talk (PTT) cable stop working on my last flight and the problem exists within the PTT wire and/or button as everything works just fine with another PTT. I know that others have had similar issues. Aside from using another cable, has anyone been able to come up with a fix for problem?

You can buy just the PTT plug-in portion of the set-up if you call MotoComm and explain your need. I've talked to them a couple times over the telephone and they've seemed very accommodating. They even gave me some specific suggestions, in terms of suggested lengths, when I mentioned I was using their stuff for hang gliding.

I've had the same problem with several sets of Motocoms. I can highly recommend PTT sets made by Steve Prater, who is a member of the Tennessee Tree Toppers.

My Motocomm PTT has also gone south. At Larry Bunner's suggestion, I just recently ordered a new system from Steve. Can't recommend it yet, but others seem quite pleased.

I have not had good luck with motocomms either. I went back to building my own stuff. This winter I want to revamp my setup to use modular phone cables. Cheap, robust, and can be plugged and unplugged with one hand so I can have redundant wiring built into the harness with second radio.

Thanks for the suggestions. JR, I called MotoComm yesterday and they are sending another PTT cable at no charge. We'll see how long this one lasts.

Save the old motocomm parts. With some mods the PTT switch can be used with better cable to make a nice unit.
