Sunday at Blue Sky
Sunday is looking like a good possibility for Blue Sky excellent thermal forecast..The winds are predicted to be NNW at 10 ..It maybe too strong and cross for truck towing but keep your fingers crossed. Right now the wind forecast is showing more north than west here so it may work out!!..Rich Hiegel
Re: Sunday at Blue Sky
As of this morning the thermal forecast looks great...wind direction held true to forecast NNW but likely at the airfield we will be dealing with 50 to maybe even some 90 degree cross..Probably will not get great heights off of tow but if you can hook one quick you should beable to stay up for awhile with thermal heights predicted over 5000'..Hope to see you there!!Rich

I'm concuring with the Northerly call, and headded down. My guess is that there's a pretty good opportunity for some soaring!

Re: Sunday at Blue Sky
This was one of those days that actually turned out better than forecasted. I arrived around 11 am and it was already close to 90 degrees although drier air than what weve been having lately. The winds were around 10 on the surface but definetly NW.. as the day went on we had windows where a more northerly tow became possible..The first 2 or 3 pilots found no lift and the song about how not to believe Rich's post for an excellent thermal forecast began!! I would say after 1pm a string of pilots 4 all together were able to find workable lift off of tows heights that averaged only 700-800' or so...The lift under 1000' was light ...I worked for a significant time working light lift low ..I'd get to 900 back to 780 than eventually was able to step up over 1000 where lift became significantly better with really outstanding lift in the cores ..All four of us Mike, Bob , Peter and Rich all reaching 6700' with Peter climbing above 7000' a bit later in the day..All of us agreed it was an outstanding day with abundant lift above 4000' There was a couple of times I had the bar stuffed trying to avoid being sucked into cloudbase only to find I was still climbing!! Mike and I bailed after and hour and half or so..Peter and Bob both flew for nearly 3 hours cruising from cloud to cloud...One of the better days Ive flown in quite awhile where the lift actually reminded me of flying in Calif..I kid you not!! It was one of those type of days..
