From the Hyner list:
Since the growing season is fast approaching, I thought I would remind everybody about the protocol at Jack’s LZ.
1. Avoid landing in the alfalfa. The farmer usually (but not always) leaves a strip of land in fallow that would be better to use. If you do land in crop, please get out ASAP.
2. Do not break your glider down or leave your harness in the alfalfa or their front lawn. Use the dirt road or the strip of grass next to the road.
3. Do not drive/park on the dirt road. The farmer uses this road often so keep it clear except when breaking down. If you must leave your glider to go up top to retrieve, leave enough space for farm equipment to pass.
4. The family is of Mennonite faith so please no cursing, drinking or littering. Also, they are very private (only mother/father will speak to strangers) so no need to interact.
5. When the flying is done, don't forget to remove your flag or windsock from the field.
We all know Jacks is a great place for new H2s but I think instructors/observers might reconsider using Jacks during mid-late summer when the corn is high. The farmer always plants east to west which can be tricky landing x-wind in between strips of corn, especially for H2s. Also, pilots that land on their wheels need to avoid the alfalfa and only land in the brown sections (pre/post corn)
Basically, if the color of the LZ is:
Green – Don’t be mean and keep clean
Yellow – Be mellow
Brown – Put the glider down
