Kirk! Good to hear from you. My recent time at the 'berg not withstanding... My towhead wife and myself will be there. Looks like a great opening day. Hope to see a good crowd.

Just to give a limited recap...
An awesome start to the soaring season! Heather and I were of course there for opening day again this year. While it was a gorgeous day at Highland, most folks had limited hopes as there was much water on the fields. The soundings showed 3500 feet might be possible and 300fpm... but with all the water? Bob launched early as usual but with a nice extendo... Then Kirk and I went followed by many. Zac towed me through a huge one and although I tried to ignore it and take my 2500' for the first tow of the year, I had to pin off at 1900' after the vario continued to insist. I looked 1/2 mile SE and Kirk was obviously way above 2500'. I tightened up into 450 fpm and took it straight up to 5000+. It was getting quite chilly as I was dressed for 3000' and 20 minutes. I bailed on that climb and just began to fly about, tuning back into my Combat and watching everyone launch down below.
Eventually, everyone was up... and way up. Some got well over 6000 as I understand and more than 2 hours. I flew with 2 baldies and a Red Tail as well with many of my old friends. Viz was great and the thermals were huge and fairly friendly. Flew all over the place just sightseeing and feeling out the air as well as trying not to climb too high (cold).
All in all an awesome day and lots of gliders, birds, hot air balloons and Decathalons flying around.

Awesome day. After climbing to 5K+ I flew around burning off altitude to get warm, then climbed back up again. Spring is here.
