I joined John M at Taylor Farm Saturday to run off some winter cobwebs. I arrived late, about 3:30, to find John busy with a half dozen students. As I was unloading the truck, a couple fellas arrived, saying they came to see the old hill. One said he might have opened it back in 1975.
Bill Shelton from Stafford and Jimmie Zell from Mananas were on their way to an oyster roast nearby, and decided it was a good chance to remember the old days. Both had been flying back in the 70's, and neither has flown in decades. Jimmie said he had taught at Kitty Hawk from '75 to '79, and then opened a school in Blacksburg. They watched a few flights, chatted with John, then headed off to the roast.
Oh, I only got two flights in before the forecast SW winds did a 180 and started blowing over the back from the NE a little before 5:00 p.m.
