Re: guy falls off high rock
Interesting story. Reminds me of an incident I saw at Carderock some 30 years ago or so that to this day I can't believe happened--though I was right there and saw it with my own eyes.
I was rock climbing at one of the tallest cliffs and at the top of the cliff a kid shows up and peers over the edge. He was obviously drunk, stoned on drugs, or both. He starts babbling something about seeing a snake in the river and tells his unseen friend that he's going to catch it. Before anyone could say anything; he squats at the edge of the 50 to 60 foot high wall and gives it the heave-ho; jumping off and hurtling to the bottom and impacting in the concrete-hard packed clay at the base mere feet from where I was standing--bouncing once and rolling to a stop in a cloud of dust. I rush up to him to see if he's OK--incredibly he's conscious. I ask him if he's OK--to which he stood up, brushed the dirt off his pants, and simply walked off.
I don't think he found the snake.

"Crews are surprised his injuries aren't more serious. "
I (seriously) wonder if that's in part due to the thick (feet) accumulation of beer cans at the bottom. They must provide a modicum of shock absorption?
