Oregon Ridge update

Post by Richard Hays »

I believe there is a wine tasting festival out there this weekend, so there
would be no flying as far as I know "if" winds were to go ENE or NE
or...NNE.

Best to call the park ( before 2pm weekdays ) to find out. I believe the
number is: 410-887-1818.

A good alternative for H-1 + for a "north" day would be Hellam Hill in York.
Grass in the LZ "might" be becoming an issue but...this weekend probably
not. No way to know unless you go.

NOTE: Always close gate-fence in field at Hellam and NO climbing the fence
unless you are prepared to fix and pay for it. Its' weak. Also...pick up
any trash you find, etc. and be super nice to the landowners.

Hi, Rich-

Thanks for the O.R. update. Is Hellam Hill now in our Site Guide? If
not, should it be?

THANKS!

I think its' already in there. If not, then probably just as well its' not.
I kinda' have mixed feelings about publishing sensitive site info for the
general public. However; I feel a better way is to have students introduced
to the site ( or any site ) by a credible and caring instructor. That way
the student can be briefed on the "do's and don't" so that when they go
back to fly it later on, they carry on the correct site protocol.

Anyone wishing to fly Hellam, or to find out more info, is welcome to call
me directly so that I can brief them on protocol and so I know who's going
to be there, etc. in the event of a issue developing with the landowner.
Or...feel free to join one of my classes and fly along side of us. Hellam
has no number of pilot restrictions ( within reason ).

Don't get me wrong, I think the site guide is a wonderful resource.
But...I've seen several training hills lost ( Sewer hill, Lineboro hill,
Yeltons, Long Green; others ) from a host of issues arising out of free
access to the sites without proper supervision. Thus...my concerns in
publishing directions to the site.

Hallem Hill isn't in the site guide.? The sites you named that were closed were never in the site guide (not since I've been doing it - which is since 1988).? Sometimes the guide is good because it gives the rules for the sites. The location of the site doesn't have to be in the guide. When this is the case, the guide will give a contact to go through.
