Brian,

I am lobbying Sallie to camp at HR Saturday. Some issues with how much in the way of sporting goods one can put in or on top of the car: two hang-gliders (U2 & S2), one PG (maybe get her some kiting at Kirchner's), two bicycles, camping gear. (Seems like a worthy challenge...) We are planning on biking in western Maryland Saturday...

Given the above, has anyone already volunteered to bring paper goods (plates, flatware, napkins, cups) for the Sunday party? Are there showers up at Penn-Mar?

Hrm.
Ok... anyone got a couch I can crash on for Sun night?
I'd love to see that sweet new PG takeoff, but it's a tad too much driving for me for one day.

What about P40 restrictions if any for Sunday?

Status of P40 for Sunday is unknowable at this time (ya think we're gonna tell whether the prez will be there in advance?!).

What do you think of the wind speed and direction for Sunday? Pulpit? High Rock?

How about kiting a paraglider at Kirchner's on such a day?

The Pulpit: From Points South And East

*

I-270 North.
*

I-70 West.
*

I-81 North, into PA. Follow I-81 for about 15 miles.
*

Exit I-81 onto Route 16 West.
*

Follow Route 16 West for about 6 miles, through Greencastle, to Upton.
*

RIGHT onto Route 995 (Lemar Road?).

(If you miss the turn, Rt 16 will eventually take you to Mercersburg, where you can proceed through town and then make a right on Route 75 North; see below)
*

Follow 995 for about 5 miles. You will pass through the town of Lemasters.
*

RIGHT onto Route 75 North. Watch for the elementary school on the left.
*

Follow Rt. 75 for about 2 miles to a stop sign.
*

LEFT onto Route 30 West.
*

Follow Route 30 about 4 miles to the top of the ridge.
*

LEFT onto the dirt road next to the Mountain House Bar and Grill. If you start going downhill, you missed the turn.
*

RIGHT into the parking lot located about 100 yards down the road. Please do not park along the dirt road, otherwise local residents will complain.

See below for directions into McConnellsbburg and then the Landing Zone.

High Rock, from Washington/Baltimore

Take either I-270 North (from Washington) or I-70 West (from Baltimore) to Frederick MD.

Take Route 15 North at Frederick.

Follow Route 15 for about 20 miles, past Catoctin Mountain Park and Thurmont.

Take the Route 550 exit (Fort Ritchie), soon after Thurmont.

LEFT at the bottom of the ramp.

Follow Rt. 550 through Sabillasville and Cascade.

RIGHT at the traffic light at the entrance of Fort Ritchie.

Cross the railroad tracks

LEFT at the next intersection. Watch for the Chocolate Park liquor store on your left. You will pass under a railroad bridge after making the turn.

Follow this road past Camp Louise, to a stop sign.

Continue STRAIGHT at this intersection; you'll pass Pen-Mar park on your right.

Continue following the road, to the top of the ridge.

Okay,
I'm going to bring meat, buns, and charcoal, probably a pasta side dish. Hugh, if you've got paper goods, that'd be great. David and Brian are bringing some side dishes. Maybe someone could bring some chips and dip or more sides. Anything else? Oh, beer. I suppose we could make it BYOB. I'll bring some sodas for those not drinking.
So far, I plan to be there Saturday sometime to relax, eat, enjoy the fire and camp. Sunday is looking pretty West right now and actually pretty strong. It's looking like Pulpit to me. Then back to High Rock for more partying Sunday night.

Looking at the hourly surface wind forecast, velocities don't get
much above W@10 until noon at The Rock. Yeah, that's a bit
cross.... And yeah, it will be a bit stronger on launch....

But if you get up there fairly EARLY on Sunday AM, and there
are some halfway decent cycles coming in, you could be in the air
lovin' life before the ramp-up becomes an issue at launch.

Just a thought!

I fear the Pulpit is going to be blown out and high rock will almost certainly need ropes and a full crew. Woodstock looks to be in the sweet spot today.

The latitude of Woodstock is 38.881N. The longitude is -78.506W.

Directions are in the site guide.

Thinking about heading there this afternoon, too. Anyone else?

Thanks man.
I'm on the road... I don't have a site guide ;)

I've got Hugh's number... hopefully that'll do. I'll need to get in touch with Carlos, but I think he's already on his way to the Pulpit (my first destination as well).

PG at the Pulpit too strong 18kts at launch. HG questionable.
As flying goes Woodstock looks better.

Dilema to make it to the HR party Pulpit is closer. Woodstock 2hr.

Will make some phone calls

Call me when you make the decision as I'll be on the road and no internet.

K... I plan to bail to HR for now... Woodstock if Carlos says that's the go.
