Re: Daniels Today
Daniels 10/3 Late Report
Head to Daniels planning to have a PG flight. Took HG as a suggestion just in case. Once there, HG was the obvious choice given my experience level on PG. Winds at launch were straight in, the slot works well, even when the wind was crossing from the right. In the air the cross was more obvious, so played trying to stay close to launch and working lift nearby. I started drifting east, no problem, went back west. Did that a couple of times. With light touch on the basetube I kept looking for lift. Wham!! A bullet thermal ripped the basetube of my hands, after regaining control, thought Hummm nice thermal, with the vario in full screen, kept turning. After a few turns I realized was drifting a lot more than before, but had altitude. I haven’t explored on this side the XC potential plus didn’t plan on it, OK leave lift and return. Barely making progress, (3/4 VG) the lower I got the stronger the wind seemed. All I can think is some sort of ventury channel perpendicular to the ridge is formed with the West cross. Anyway, didn’t make to the LZ but had plenty of options. The field was grassy bowl, but fenced on the edges. I apologize the owner, but he was very nice fellow and didn’t mind.
Thanks to Ellis and Tom C for the retrieval and help kitting afterwards.
