High Rock Fly-in: Sept 26-27 : POSTPONED : now Oct 3-4

Post by davidtheamazing1 »

Hi All,
It's time for the HR flyin! It will be this weekend unless there is a Friday forecast for bad weather, in which case it will be the following weekend (October 3-4). We are going to go pot-luck style with this one, so please RSVP and say what you are bringing... Also there will be a $10 suggested donation to support HR.

* Feel free to camp out for two long days of flying!
* Renew your club membership or sign-up to officially join!
* PG Pilots: Fly from another site to the HR flyin and win a prize!

food & drink:
Main courses
Sides
Dessert
Beer
Wine
Sodas
Other

Some special requests:
Grill
Lantern
Extra table
Plates/Napkins/etc

If everybody pitches in, we can have a great party, do some flying, and show how much we value being able to claim the oldest regularly used cliff launch in the country.
------
Addendum: RSVP and invite your friends to come watch an party with us via the facebook group:

Damn, I have other plans on Saturday. I'd rather be at HR, though. Y'all have fun!

I believe there's one charcoal and one propane grill already there.

Crud. Can I hope for bad weather or is it bad form? Hope to be there but must be another weekend. Have fun.

I don't know how much is left of the party stash at Rich bloomfield's place near the pulpit. Might be worth checking into.

There's a good chance I'll show, and will bring some kind of veggie salad type of thing.

Count me in and write me down for bringing burgers, dogs, charcoal, grilling utensils, and my geetar. Hope the grills are still there!

By bad weather do you mean non-flyable? Right now it's looking really SE.

I refuse to be pinned down on the "weather call", but current forecast for this weekend is pretty bad, with rain predicted both Sat and Sunday. Lets hope for improvement... and in case the Friday forecast isn't 180 degrees better... lets clear our calendars next weekend, Oct 3-4.

given the mention of the geetar, I'd suggest that any ghetto blasters be silenced by nightfall so people can get in the mood for making their own music.

I think the rain forecast is based on that big stationary globalink of rain seen in the radar in the midwest. Hasn't moved in the last day, so tomorrow's forecast may be very different from today's.

I think the premise for "impromptu" fly-ins is to have an event when we can actually fly at that site. Having said that, I defer to the august and omnipotent BoD.

Also, since this is the oldest Maryland hang gliding site and thus practically an institution and keeping in mind that the state sport of Maryland is jousting and furthermore to tie in with the Maryland's renaissance festival at the other end of the state, I propose that folks don their best renaissance clothes and fly with lances for air jousting in good view from the block.

Keep in mind that you guys fly something very akin to what Leornardo daVinci had proposed as a flying machine.
Let's celebrate that!

If anybody has a good source of mead, that would probably tie in with the theme quite nicely.

-- ellis
p.s. you could also decorate your wings with colorful streamers... maybe Brian will come down and play some of his renaissance instruments? And if you don't know what to bring in terms of food, let yourself be inspired by renaissance food: http://www.renaissance-spell.com/Renaissance-Food.html
p.p.s. renaissance inspired clothing, which you could (with some different combination) also wear everyday can be found at: http://www.pyramidcollection.com/
p.p.p.s. once outiftted thus, you can re-use your outfit at Highland's fly-in and for Halloween for years to come.

Well I went to the Pyramid site, but they have neither doublets nor codpieces - and what about the poofy pants? Gotta have poofy pants... - Hugh

P.S. If this is still on, I will only (maybe) be able to come for the party Saturday - might get a sled Sunday AM (WSW Sunday afternoon is the closest I'm seeing...)

Not sure why this has veered so firmly in the direction of the medieval/renaissance. But I can quote from memory a recipe from a medieval cookbook:

ROASTE PIG

Take ye a pig and smite him.
Cook until donne;
Serve him forthe.

It is not clear if this was intended as a joke, but it's pretty fun and totally authentic.

High Rock Fly-in: now Oct 4

Post by davidtheamazing1 »

Hi All,
So the Bacil-cast has been called and we are ON for the High Rock fly-in this weekend! Since Saturday is going to most likely be rainy with too-southerly winds, looks like we are going to move the party to beautiful Autumn day on SUNDAY... and the party will be in the evening at 6:30 (in the LZ).

Although the rainy Saturday not-launch-able weather will keep some people away, you're still welcome to camp out on Saturday night but please plan to stick around for the aafter-flying potluck on Sunday evening. We will all be energized from our incredible flights and the PG pilots will all be able to fly over from the Pulpit.

I don't have a count or anything but good flying and good fun are assured for all who attend. I hope you can make it!!

I guess the decision's already been made, but I see only slight chance of rain for saturday, and it's hard to sit around a camfire drinking on a night before work. Wouldn't saturday night be better? Then you get up late the next morning, have some brunch, and go fly.

Who else will be there saturday night? Sunday night doesn't work for me.

What's the zip code for the Pulpit?
I'm up in PA and might be able to work Sunday into my trip back... just need something I can plug into google to find out how far out of the way it is (so zip does nicely).
