Bill's Clean-Up Saturday????

Post by Matthew »

It's looking East for Saturday right now. If the forecast holds true, how about we do a clean-up at Bill's on Saturday and then fly? The more the merrier and the quicker we will get it done.

Saturday's looking like a massive dew point/temperature spread.

Anyone fly Bill's Hill on Saturday, and if so, how was it?

Karen and Matthew, Carlos, Dan Tomlinson, and Ellis showed up with bags. Tony D, Rich B., and myself handled the plumbing. A massively overgrown mess is now marginally launchable for HGs. Winds were coming in nicely during the work; it then backed off when we went to launch. I was happy to have brought the Falcon. Most of the PGs did a forward launch. Ellis is the only one who soared.

In the evening the winds increased again, and it probably would've been soarable around sunset.

It definately would have been soarable around sunset. The best straightest smoothest winds I saw were coming right up the hill after dark. Oh well maybe they will start earlier next time.

Any I think all of the paraglider pilots including yours truly got two flights except for Ellis, who got there late and settled for one. Of course in her own in her own inimitable way she managed to pull off a two plus hour soaring flight so I'm sure she isn't complaining.

Earlier in the day Carlos jumped off launch and beamed right up. Turn Carlos turn! Alas like me it was his first high flight in this part of the world and he decided to make sure he could reach the primary which he had no difficulty doing.

Yes, it was good to see so many P2s and all having good flights: Dan and Carlos having their first mountain flights in the USA and Karen showing off her impeccable forward launch. It was fairly buoyant, all of the P2s know how to assess altitude and glide and set up approaches. It was an easy day to be an observer. :-)

Small correction: I flew twice, first one an extendo. Second flight I got to soar, had to come down, sun was setting. Apparently Dan was so envious of my flight, that it seemed like two hours, when it was only one. Or maybe he got tired of waiting for me to come down... Sorry. (not)

Also, Matthew did have a soaring evening flight. I was actually quite envious of him climbing over the ridge so quickly (one pass), when it had taken me numerous passes, kicking leaves, each pass gaining me about 10 feet.

Btw, great job on the part of Karen, Matthew, David B., Rich, Tony, Dan and Carlos for cleaning up launch!!!
