Hyner Cloud Dive - Glory!

Post by CraginS »

Image

No cloud dives on Saturday, July 4th, but beautiful sky on Sunday, July 5, at Hyner View.
Only three of us, Brian V-H, Dave, and I, took advantage of the opportunity.

(Matthew you blew it! You should have stayed over!)

Here is the most beautiful of views from the sky.

Awesome picture, Cragin!

Strange weather. As usual it was unbelievably soarable the day before most people arrive, and as usual I arrived a few hours later so missed it.

Friday morning ended up being rather soarable, but we never would have found out if new pilot Amy hadn't first dragged her instructor up there about 6 damn 30 am and flew down to let us know it was launchable. We went up just to enjoy her enthusiasm, never expecting to soar at 10 am on that short ridge. but we did, even if briefly.

Saturday morning was pretty much blown out from the get-go, so we did other things like hauling the russians along on a tour of the slate run swimming hole. Matthew went up around 4 pm, reputely shook his head, muttered darkly and drove all the way back home. A couple hours later it was soarable. Here's your public thank-you Matthew, couldn't have happened without you!

Sunday was obviously the cloud dive. It deserved better attendance. I've been asked to reinstate my old tradition of wandering along the tent rows at morning twilight shouting "CCLLLOOOUDDD DDIIVVEE!" This time I was polite and only woke people up based on orders the night before. I'll be back to banging pots at Labor Day.

Very Nice. That's the first footage I've seen of Hyner in which the gliders actually go up after launching. Looks like it was a great weekend.
