Pulpit 6/27
Looking to possibly fly the Pulpit Saturday if the forecast works out. The conditions shouldn't be as strong as it was at Woodstock this past Sunday.

I'll have a Peace Corps reunion of sorts in Chambersburg that weekend. I may not have time to do more than drop by saturday in the early afternoon, but sunday may be good as well.

Re: Pulpit 6/27
Dang, I hate missing the Fly-in. If I bring my falcon to attempt flight in both places, getting it back to PA from Ridgely and then home again is a royal pain. Maybe I'll not bring the glider, stop longingly at the Pulpit on saturday, show up at the Fly-in on Sunday and rent a glider.

I'll be making the final push to get ready to move home on Tues. Unfortunately, I'll miss both.
But at least I'll be home by Wednesday, just in time to leave for Hyner.

Brian,
Ridgely has demos for the Fly-In. They won't have a lot because the WW rep won't be there till after the Fly-In. But they said they will have some deoms. No need to bring a glider.

Re: Pulpit 6/27
Got to the Pulpit around 1300. Keith Ford was the only other Pilot there. Conditions were doable... if it was straight in, but wind was from the north... 340-360. So we just talked for a while. Brian showed up to check out the new ramp... I left around 1530... probably right before conditions turned doable. Where was everyone else?? Anyone fly from the mountains?

Re: Pulpit 6/27
Bacil, Kris, Ward and I showed up at 1000 only to see the same strong cross. Decided to head to the Sac. I launched at 2:00 and worked to cloud base at 4300' msl. Headed over the back and made good time out to the flats. Got greedy north of Lititz and passed a climb only to plummet to the ground in Brownstown for a short 42 miler at 4:17. At 6:00 I called flight service to find out how high cb had risen and was somewhat dismayed to hear 6500' bases in the Harrisburg area. Clouds looked good even at 8:00 tonight. You know, woulda, coulda, shoulda. Next time for sure I will.

Re: Pulpit 6/27
I must mention that the slot at the Sac really looks good. Joe and company were busy cutting when I arrived at 12:30. The path immediately below launch is cleared out. Two more days of work and it will be a well manicured launch! Joe did mention adding more dirt to the mound. I wonder what it would take to widen the mound to the width of the glider in addition to increasing the height. Any thoughts out there? Janni? Bacil and Ward showed up a few minutes after. Ward had volunteered to drive for us as he is on the mend from ACL and MCL damage done moving a glider onto a cart at Ridgely. He had just soloed after a 20+ year hiatus from the sport. Surgery is coming up after the swelling goes down. I wish him a speedy recovery. He picked me up at an Amish farm shortly after I was packed up. We talked XC flying all the way back to the Sac .It was a real pleasure. Thanks again Ward for the ride.

I'll just add that I had a much much shorter XC than Larry. I had to wait a good while for launch crew while Larry soared for over a half hour. It was then a bit of a struggle to get up. I flew down to near Rt. 125 where I saw Larry was 2K' over and climbing. Found some lift to 700' over but it quit. I tried heading back towards launch, but it turned west on the ridge and scraped me off. I ended up landing uphill in a soybean field in between pretty high corn. Thanks very much to Ward Odenwald for the retrieve. The retrieve was a bit easier than Larry's. Helped Joe Gorrie, Karen, and Bob Beck into the soarable air. While waiting for Ward to return with Larry, I played Nature Boy. Pics explain.
