Yah, Fred Muelller... he's a good guy.
Fred's a seasoned glider driver and a pilot for one of the majors. I don't have many details but did just hear that he needed to stay overnight at York Hospital.
I sumise it was an early lauch. Typically we'll launch early before the thermals start and fly the wave upwind across the valley to the Tusk and then onto the ridge lift. Guess he was returning (didn't stick) and was turbulated where I imagine he would have been on base (conjecture.) The boom and wing broke which is typical of a ground loop which can occur in strong cross wind landings. I suspect something more violent happened. It was pretty windy/gusty here yesterday and that part of the terrain (where he went down) has a reputation for turbulance.
Guess I'll hear more this weekend.
