Pulpit 4/5

Post by pnadams »

I don't have much experience with the local sites, but after looking at NOAA, TWC and XC Skies, the wind seems to favor Pulpit for tomorrow.
Forecast for Woodstock seems to be west to south depending on which forecast you believe.
Pulpit looks WSW to NW, XC Skies is the one I'd like to believe, WNW.
Early looks better, there will be a shift to SW in the afternoon.

It was a nice early day at the Pulpit today. Got there at 9A to find Shawn Ray and Ward Odenwald already there. Shawn and I set up quickly, as it was blowing a nice 12 to 18 MPH straight in on the old ramp. By 10A it shut down, just as Larry Bunner arrived. Glen Hardy, Greg, and Krzysztof arrived later to round out the pilot contingent. Shawn took off just before 11A, as it had picked back up some, but not like before. Shawn found some thermal lift to the south and slowly climbed above the ridge. I waited for about 15 minutes, then launched in thermally air. Beelined it down to near Shawn, and found some lift to get above the ridge. Larry joined us in the choppy air and got up. I spent the next hour going between 300' over to 700' over, with a nice gain to 1100' over once. Glen, Greg, and Krzysztof joined us and got up. A flush cycle claimed me near Rt. 16, and I put down in the secondary. Shawn joined me after a nice 1.5 hour flight. Glen, Greg, and Krzysztof all landed in the primary, as did Larry after a 1.5 hour flight and a gain to 1700' over. Thanks to Ward Odenwald for the ride back up to the top. Back on top Pete Adams was setting up for a flight. After picking up our gliders Pete had a sled to the primary. Some pics follow.

Nice pics, Bacil. Glad you guys got some air, sounds like a fun day. Hey Shawn, I can help you get the video flipped if you want. Give me a call sometime when you have a minute at your new hot rod computer. I'll pretend that I'm just nice, but really I need some vicarious airtime and I want to see your video! :)

Bacil,

I'm really enjoying the pics, thanks for putting them up. I'll see you all in about 3 months.
