Memorial Day Weekend (fwd)

Anyone going to Hyner? After planning to go, then not planning, I am back
to planning to go. I believe the Sparkster is going as well.

Subject: Memorial Day Weekend

All,

The Memorial Day Weekend Fly-In is scheduled for this weekend. Although the
weather forecast doesn't look great, Hyner always seems to defy forecasters
and make it's own weather. We'll just hope it will continue that tradition
again this weekend.

The new T-shirts are done and will be available for purchase in both
short-sleeve and long-sleeve. In case you missed the design in the USHGA mag, here
is a pic of the T-shirt:

July celebration. Since the design was made for the 30th year, there will
not be any more shirts made if we sell all 200. Better get them while you

So far this year we have 66 total members. Last year we had 89 members.

A big thanks to T-bone, Dunn, Pagan and Perez for cutting the launch of
Kennedy last weekend. I'm told the site is in OK shape for this year.

Yes, I plan to leave at noon on Thursday. "High Rock" Bob Gillissee will also be there.

I can't wait to fly at Hyner, but it will have to be the 4th of July weekend. I'm headed to the Blue Sky Memorial Day party (and hopefully some thermal soaring) (yeah right, I should change my moniker to "Soaring like a chunk of concrete....") -Linda B.

Woodstock! I wish I could go...but once again, parenting duties prevail...I've got to be home by 4pm for school/soccer events with my daughter. I love her dearly...but this sucks.

Is there anyone else out there in this club who is a single parent? (Meaning nobody else to share parental duties with.) I'm just curious. It would be nice to commiserate.

My daughter does have a mother she spends time with...but her mother is wheelchair-bound, leaving me to do all the things both parents usually share.

Sorry...I guess that was overly personal...but it might help explain to others who wonder why I so often miss primo flying opportunities. Being kidless (or having a spouse to help) is a big advantage---be thankful if you're one of those people!

Hi Scott,

I'm not a single parent but I do feel your pain. I miss virtually all of the
primo flying opportunities because of parental/family obligations. I guess I
could skip some events but I figure the sky's not going anywhere but my
daughter is and I've only got about 6 years left with her so I'm trying to make
the most of it. Sounds like you're doing the same thing.

I bet we won't regret it.

As hard as it is to miss flying, you're right---we've got decades of flying ahead of us, but only a few more years of watching the kids grow up!

I don't want to give the wrong impression of myself. While I believe
everything I said, I still revert to a spoiled adolescent complete with
pouting, cursing and foot stomping when my plans to fly get screwed up by
weather, or something that was on my wife's calendar but not mine.

Trying hard to be a grown up but usually failing,

If my wife is out of town I just drag the kid to the hang-gliding
venue. How did we get to the point that kids' schedules take
precedence over ours? Isn't it enough that we feed them and provide
shelter, refrain from strangling them in their cribs? - Hugh

Marney and I are heading for Hyner for Memorial Day weekend arriving Friday mid afternoon.

chgpa.org
