OK....Got my doctors approval to fly a few days ago and today the wind quit blowing so hard, the sky turned blue, the temperature soared and so did Lauren and I (plus Terry Reynolds and Our friend Larry Feringa). It wasn't anything to write the OZ report about. I flew my old Mark IV so I could wheel land and protect my shoulder so only got 35minutes and a whopping 2800 feet. Still, it was soaring. Terry got the FOD with a bit over an hour. He also showed up at the park with a young Red Tail Hawk that he is just teaching to hunt. Lauren got to hold it which was definitely the highlight of her day. Very cool.
After I landed I took the 914 Dragonfly around the patch a few times. I think I'm beginning to get a handle on it, landings are getting pretty decent, though I haven't yet had the opportunity to tow anyone with it.
Happy Holidays to All.

Re: Today's Florida report
Congrats on getting back into free flight, Paul!
This past weekend I spent both days at Front Royal, took one sailplane flight and did a half-dozen cycles in the Husky on Saturday. Finally getting it that ya hafta use full aft trim to be able to muscle the stick full aft in the flare.
Sunday it was gusting to 20-25 and dead cross (burble over the trees) - so we put a paraglider pilot friend (Jeff Eggers) and his wife Megan up for introductory sailplane flights. They enjoyed their flights, perhaps not realizing what skill it took for their instructors to pull off good landings in those conditions.
I towed one other student and instructor up with the Husky (under instruction) and pulled off a surprisingly good landing, but we decided to quit while we were ahead and put the toys away, then went to drink beer...

Re: Today's Florida report
I didn't get to tow today. Dustin was crying how broke he was and that he needed to make some money. Lauren and I are going to Quest early tomorrow so she can do some pattern tows and I will be the tow pilot but I'll probably use Bobby's 582. She doesn't trust me with the 914 yet. Probably smart.
Hey, Lauren wants to post some great phpotos of her holding th eRed Tail Hawk but can't figure out how to do it. Can anyo ne help?

P.S. to Hugh.....Sounds like you're getting pretty wired into towing sail planes. Is it fairly easy? I've been thinking about getting checked out in a Pawnee and seeing if I could tow for Seminole Gliderport. The only trick with towing Hang Gliders is flying just above stall speed. It seems that while towing sail planes, you can go a bit faster.

Uhoh, this doesn't sound much like HG. I'll take it direct to Hugh. Sorry.
