Pulpit PM 11/28

Post by XCanytime »

Looks like the "weak" front will pass thru midday, turning the winds west by the afternoon. Anybody up for working off the turkey at the Pulpit Friday afternoon?

I am hoping to fly Friday but also not sure where. Models still diverge a little on tomorrow. Some WSW at 10, some WNW at 16.

With the forecast wind strenth, it looks like woodstock to me. The forecast still looks a little unsettled though. Is anyone interested?

Woodstock sounds like a better choice. Moving kinda slow this morning. I'm game, but probably won't get there until 1PM.

I can't tell which way the trends are moving, but the ADDS winds at 3k are blasting this afternoon.

May not be the day for us bag draggers.

In a nutshell, 6 pilots showed up, one flew and fought the good fight for an long extendo (Tom) around 3PM. The rest of us (John Harper, Nelson Lewis, Janni, Carlos, and I) fielded questions from spectators and watched a mature bald eagle climb out from just above a nook by the river to above the ridge around 3:45PM. As we were leaving after watching the pro in action, the winds picked up to a soarable velocity, but nobody was set up.

I was headed to WS when Janni called me and said that he had just turned off on to 81 and it was totally dead in the valley. Did I know and have the phone number of anybody at launch? So I called Tom McG who was on launch who said that it was dead to blowin over the back. Called Janni back and he suggested bailing to Dickey Ridge. Arranged to meet him in the LZ. Got to the LZ and no Janni. Tom Ceunan and Jeff were there. They headed on up while I waited for Janni. No Janni. No phone bars so couldn't call him. Finally gave up on him and headed up. As soon as I got within cell tower range – beep beep. Voice mail. Its Janni. Steve its straight in at launch come on up. Quell Jerk! Boy was I pissed. But then I began to think: Janni doesn't fly Dickey Ridge. I also noted that the caller ID didn't come up “Janni”. And when I asked “Janni?”, the voice at the other end said “No. Tom” Hmmm. Skinsley's powerful brain instantly diagnoses the problem. Two people with accents and an assumption. And my hearing sucks so I don't tend to trust the information my ears provide.

Anyway the flying was ok. Kinda weird air but it was soarable. Understand Janni sank out at WS which serves him right for treating his friends so shabbily.

That's twice in one week that a german and belgian accent has been confused. Curious.

Dickey's was ok, albeit funky. We flew for 30 min or so in smooth ridge lift, which then became bumpy thermal air, then said heck with it and landed in LZ.

Forecasters should get docked day of pay for today. Whoa was it off the mark.

Jeff
