Elizabethville 11/9

Post by XCanytime »

Flew a new site yesterday. Got there at 12 noon to find a few RCers getting ready to fly. Set up and waited for the locals to arrive. Within an hour Bob Beck, Dave Black, Doug Rogers, Jesse Fulkersein, and TR Johnson showed up and set up. Bob briefed me on the two LZs that they use. It was overcast but straight in at 12 to 18 MPH. The launch is wide open. I led the charge at 1:45P and got up easily to the south. Spent an hour exploring the small ridge before getting chilly and landing in the main LZ. Everybody got 1 hour plus. Took quite a few pics. I'll be back.

The LZ (didn't know there were 2) that I'm familiar with is pretty open but lumpy. A good H2 could do it on a good day. Launch is awesome for an east coast site, wide-open, smooth and gradual runoff. What's extra cool about E-ville is that it's top-landable in smoother conditions. This is a good thing as the turn-around is a bit long on a trail through the woods. It can get turbulent there in stronger air due to the upwind topography.

I've had a number of good flights there and it's a good site on the right day.

Elizabethville launch is located in Weiser State Forest, off of Wolf Pond Road, SSE of the town of Elizabethville, PA. The "top landing" LZ has had a weather station installed right in the middle of it. Bob Beck recommends not to try to top land anymore. The second LZ is a cornfield that is roly poly. It is to the WSW of launch and a long glide. Sledders go to the main LZ. The three fields are shown in the pictures below.
